Default fuel gage issue

I ran out of gaz yesterday with my 1991 S4. It look like the gage doesn't go lower dans 20 liters when I run.
I lift the sender and found no fuel in the thank. How could I adjust the bottom end of the reading of the gage?
Thanks in advance

Marc

You need to readjust the gauge cluster using the directions in the workshop manuals section 20-19.

Drain the tank then fill it with exactly 15 liters (3.96 gallons) of fuel.

Let it sit for at least one minute.

Then pull the bottom left stalk that controls the gauge cluster and turn on the ignition at the same time. The screens will display "TANK EICHEN" on the left and nothing on the right.

Press the green 0 reset button on the center console until "15 LITER" appears on the right screen. It is now calibrated.

. It has a 0 on it opposite of the central locking button on the same panel. It's normally used to reset the odometer.

Will that work for gauges on the '86? Mine won't go up to full mark so there's always more gas in it than needle says...would be nice to fix it.

No digital clusters only. You may need a new sender.

No, digi dash only. But in my experience on my 81 that off reading comes from high resistance in the harness and connections.

When I replaced the PCB for the cluster it read correctly again.

You're lucky in that the 86 foil is still cheap, and should be good for another 30 years.

Good day eveyone,

I work on my car yesterday to try to fix my gage problem with no luck. I empty the tank and check the gage on the dash it show ZERO and the empty light is ON. I add 15 liters and the gage show about 30 liters. I Try the reset buttom and holding it. the only thing happen is the odometer goes back to zero. No wording No change on the fuel gage. What is the step I missing?
Car is ROW 1991 S4 Thanks in advance.
