Default Tail light help

Guys I just have to say that this forum is amazing with so much help and information and quite honestly one of the main reasons I decided to purchase mine.
I've checked alot of posts but I cant seem to find what I'm looking for. just wondering if someone has good pictures of 1986 tail light assembly ( front and back ) installed in the bumper cover. I just bought my 928 from a bodyman/painter and it came in pieces with all the studs twisted off.
The assembly doesnt look like it fits perfectly in the hole either, maybe I'm missing a seal ?
Thanks in advance !

I'm new to this so bare with me...

Mine and 86, I got with real rear bumper probs. It had been hit from behind on the PS quarter. I'm still dealing with that.

Anyways, with the bumper off, go thru nice and slow and mount up the lights. If your saying that all the lights have the situation where the studs are broken off the light fixture itself, well I didn't find a solution to that. I thought about drilling and setting some kind of stud to see what might happen but I was a long ways off from being on the road, knew time was on my side, so I saved my pennies and hit Ebay (they can be expensive for the broken stud problem). Got new light backs/housings, no lenses (had those) and then buttoned them up. Do the work with the bumpers off the the car. Very easy that way... Then, lay the bumper up...

I found that there are really nice rubber seals that do go around the lights... Markers and all... It makes them sit real nice. I don't have those (well, a few remain - old and fragile) but have been thinking about a solution that involves tightly manicuring 2sided tape, and trimming it up and setting it in around the lights, them mounting them. I think I remember searching for that rubber gasket for the lights but don't remember ever finding it. Old stuff.

At this stage, compared to what a lot of folks are and have done here, I feel like a hack, but I will get there, no doubt.

You're right,,, it IS a great group here. Walk ya thru almost anything. Money can be a thing. I try to find ways around that, for now.

Thanks for the advice Jay. Do you know if all 4 studs are the same length around the assembly ? I found a couple of the broken studs but they are different lengths.
I think I'll try to epoxy some with bolts/screws but not sure what length they were originally.I could see having trouble mounting them if they're too long.

Same length I'm pretty sure but you'll know while you're in there. I wouldn't do it without the bumper off the car and rear of the car exposed all right there in front of ya.

It's straightforward but tough and long hold,,, even for a good epoxy setting... save some pennies and get the light backing if you can find a set.

Thats not bad Jay but I notice 2 out of 4 are screws instead of bolts. Because pristine examples are very expensive, I'm going to try and epoxy some srainless steel botls on this weekend. I'll let you know how it goes. Have a good weekend !

Understood. My bad. And yes, they are expensive. I hadn't noticed. Came across it and sent it out.

Shoot, I wish ya luck, I didn't have the courage. With bumps and bounces, I didn't want to get the whole thing up there then, 200miles later, realize when I was in Pennsylvania or something, that the light had fallen out and was behind the bumper. It's a safety thing... Please tho,,, once you set in the screws, or when you've discovered that "way", pass the info along. All of us could use any info.
