Pondering a porsche decal
Anyone have a porsche 928 with the black porsche decal down the side i saw one on a boxster a number of years ago and liked it but I dont know if it would work on my car (blue metallic or Wimbledon green metallic) and if it would have to be taken off when the car is eventually repainted. Also any idea on what a respray in Wimbledon green metallic cost

That's a no. 928's have such a unique body profile they don't need it broken up by a decal. I put a Porsche decal on my Boxster because the body design is quite drab. It did break up the design a bit a looks ok. Much like the Clubsport scrip on 968's. Get your 928 in the right light and it already comes equipped with an 'S' in the front guard / wing.

That add-on tape was available originally in 1970's 914 and 924 models because folks needed to know it was actually a Porsche. These were "save the company" entry-level models that needed the help. Some 911 variants seemed to sprout the tape stripe, along with some that had model-specific lettering. To me, it would certainly cheapen the look of the 928.
Most US-delivered cars came with horizontal door strips that break up the huge expanse of 928 door skin. Most these days consider the door strips less desirable appearance-wise. Mine have undoubtedly saved it from some interesting metal reshaping, particularly during it's decades of regular-driving duty while we lived in SoCal. Regardless, the tape strip is too low to break up the door reflection, and offers absolutely no practical protection from other possible damage.
Summary: My personal opinion is a solid NO.
