Discovered broke flex cable in gauge cluster
I have the alt not charging until 3000rpm issue. Im replacing the bulb for the voltmeter, which was burnt out. Just got the bulb in today from Roger, the i notice this at the bottom left.
Glad I didn't put the gauges back in yet. Does anyone have an opinion on why this would happen. Looks like it may have gotten snagged as the flex board actually very minimally sticks out over the edges of the gauge cluster (how silly). Now I'll be attempting to repair this and hopefully the circuit returns to normal so my alternator issue gets solved. Thanks

Year? Looks like several issues there. To me it looks like that trace not only snagged on something, but shorted, and the installation of the resistor is questionable, to say the least. I don't like the way the lower lead protrudes from beneath the screw and in the pic appears to be close to touching the trace at the base of the instrument bulb.

I would just replace the circuit foil.

It's an 81.
I'm a novice at electrical repairs but I think I did enough to fix it. Soldered onto the ribbon tape and used a modern wire. Fixed the issues mentioned above by you all, and also out electrical tape in the corners to further protect the circuit. Installed the cluster and everything works as it should. Finally the alternator charges at idle!
