I remember this thread when I was helping Paul rebuild the top end of his 87 on the street in Winter miles from his house.

I believe the throttle body with 2 lower vacuum ports was initially used in '87 MY and phased out in '88. Porsche in their true 'use up all parts' attitude may have fitted the same tbody to late '87s and early '88s and as Tony described sealed the 2nd port. I dont see how both ports were used so I think the factory chose which port to use given the country destination of the car and then plugged the other port?
