Default Brake line & expansion tank brackets

Trying to sort out some corrosion issues on the back of my '85 S2 and hoping someone could post image/dimensions for the expansion tank rear bracket - mine turned to dust when I removed the fuel system for sill repairs. Looks like it might have been C shaped with a captive M6?

Also does anyone have dimensions for the bracket on the body where the rear brake hardline joins the flex line to the calliper. Mine had to be cut to separate the unions.

Happy spannering

Hi David,

I had a look through my pics and just got under the car to take some measurements. My car is an '87 S4, but I think the brackets are the same.
I tried to be as accurate as possible but please forgive me when I am slightly off...….

The expansion tank bracket:

I checked PET and the tank has the same part number for both our MY's; I think the bracket will probably be the same too.
The bracket has a threaded piece on the outside, but unfortunately that broke off when I took my expansion tank out. The left pic showes where it was, as well as where the bracket is attached to the body (it is not attached at the top).
I used a Dremel to drill a hole through the bracket, and then made the hole bigger using a different tool.

On the right side pic are the measures I took.

The pic below is from after putting POR15 on the bracket to prevent if from rusting in the future. I ordered part nr 900 075 017 02 (Hexagon-head bolt M6x25) to replace the broken threaded piece:

Brake line bracket:

Below are the measurements for the brake line bracket. The left side is the left rear bracket, the middle the right rear bracket.
The diameter of the hole I think is 16 mm: I took the caliper out with no friction:

I hope this helps David!

my 85 S2 spent its formative years shuttling between Newcastle and St Andrews and the expansion bracket had disappeared by the time I got it. Im not too bothered about originality so fabricated a bracket using some 3mm steel banding. wasn't confident Id get a decent weld due to all the rustproofing underneath so riveted it to the body and attached to the tank via an M6 screw. Looks like this

Manfred, you are a star - above and beyond! Is the hole in the brake bracket just circular - what diam?

SRaouf, Maybe StAndrews salty road are as harsh as Edinburgh. I will try something more stock but this looks a good fallback.

In the expansion tank bracket it is not completely cirular, but that's because of my lack of technique….

The hole in the brake line bracket appears to be circular, and as I wrote I think it is 16 mm....

Looking at the pics with some more detail I noticed the surface of the brake line bracket is not even but has a lowered part in the center:

I checked my other pictures to see why that might be necessary, and I'm not sure if it is. This is the set up when all lines are connected:

From left to right flexible brake hose, body attached bracket, brake hose bracket (item 9 in the PET page below), top end of flexible brake hose, brake line.

Maybe a true expert can shed some light on this…..…

The hole in the brake coupling bracket needs to be sized so that the end of the flex hose can pass through. Since you have the hose, you know the diameter. Rather than trying to form the strengthening shape in the bracket, consider just using a thicker material. The thickness limit will be determined by the little spring horseshoe clip that holds it in place. Note that some aftermarket brake hoses have a slightly larger end diameter than original. I did a little creative filing on the factory bracket to fit the Goodridge-branded hoses. Also, since brake fluid seems to chew through almost any common coatings, it may be worth the expense of having the pieces powder-coated rather than painted prior to installation. Note also that the metal brake lines suffer corrosion in salty environments in spite of the copper-nickel-steel material. Replace those plus the three-way couplings (11 in the exploded drawing above) to save grief on failure plus aid installation now.

Doh - didn't read the text well enough!
Excellent thanks. I have some of the #9s although they are just mild steel so they will go in with the next plating batch. Getting carried away...:
