If your cold dead fingers are wrapped around your 928, he may not want yours anymore.

Well my passat is nearly sold and I'll have working capital of about $18,750 for a 928.
My thought is I need to find one in the 10-12K range and leave ample cash for any issues that may present themselves along with a few cosmetic elements that I'll want to do as well.
Your thoughts and pointers to cars for sale in this range are welcome. I am already looking at EBAY and AutoTrader within 300 miles of 32207 zip. I am thinking I can get an 88 or 89 S4 that is well maintained for this price.
Thanks and I'll be an owner here soon enough!

If you are looking for something within 300 miles it might take a while to find the right shark. Your better off finding one that is right and fly out and get it, then have fun driving it back.

Sorry. I meant searching AutoTrader within a 300 mi radius. I am not opposed to flying to get one but would like to stay east of the Mississippi.
Thanks!
Thanks!

It is good to hear that you are leaving some room ($) for unexpected trouble. Not that it should be expected. The one item that is usually a sure thing though is timing belt/H2O pump. Unless the owner shows you the actual dated receipt that you can verify, assume it must be done. Don't take anyone’s word on this.
The main thing is to take your time. If you want a 928 today, you can get one. However if you are patient, and are able to walk away from a car if there are issues, you will eventually get a nice car.
If you are interested in a particular car, you can consider posting a request for info on it. Many rennlisters here are familiar with the 928’s that are for sale in their area. If not, they may have a look for you.
Best of luck,
Mike

Sounds like you have enough money for a nice S4. I am sure it's been mentioned already but a pre-purchase inspection by knowledgeable 928 shop is a must. Good luck!

Patience is the key to a nice 928. My next one will be an 87/88 S4. I like the analog dash much better, looks sportier to me. I got my GT very cheap and it is a 9 plus inside and out with 61k. Paid 17.5. My point is patience. And yes you should plan on flying. Texas seems to have a lot of good deals on cars lately.
Good Luck
