Default Tail light reflector change 1983

Hi All,

Is it possible to change the reflector (where the bulbs mount, not the lens) for the tail light without having to remove the tail assembly of the car?

Thanks

I dont know the answer, but are you needing to do it because of damaged bulb sockets, cracked housing or loss of reflectivity? If loss of reflectivity (they seem to turn black over time) there is an alternative to replacing the housing: paint it!

From memory: clean and scuff the housing interior in prep for paint, tape off the bulb housings and the housing perimeter areas (rear bumper area). Use a quality chrome or white* spray paint to paint the housing. Night and day difference if they were previously dull and blackened.

*I used chrome on mine but I have heard white works well too.

From what I recall, though it's been some 10 years ago since I had the rear bumper cover off my 85, you do need to remove the cover to access the rear light housing assemblies. However, if it is a reflectivity issue as hernanca mentioned I used the same approach as he did using chrome paint with good success.
