Tensioner arm pivot roller bearing '84-86 - Has anyone replaced just the bearing?
Hi all,
Has anyone successfully removed and replaced the bearing inside the roller that is mounted at the pivot of the timing belt tensioner arm? I have a very late model '83 with this roller and believe it covers 84-86 as well. (Not '87 and up though, a circlip is used).
The bearing itself is available cheap, versus the bearing plus roller not cheap. The problem is that there seems to be some kind of ledge inside the roller that traps the bearing. I haven't seen any discussions on this, nor have I tried to remove it yet. For those of you who have done it, how do you get the bearing out?
that bearing can be replaced it is pressed into the outer roller collar,
find a socket with a flat face and slightly smaller OD than the new bearing,
then freeze the new bearing and heat up the collar to 250F ,
install is pretty easy
I'll give removing the bearing a try tonight, thanks Stan! I guess the little tabs must just bend out of the way as you press out the bearing. I do have a new bearing on the way so will report back.
Got it off! I tried both directions this is what worked. Heated up briefly with a torch beforehand. The bearing totally flattened out the little tabs on its way out.
