Although the link is an attempt at a burnout to finish off a set of rear tires that was already done.

On the plus side, a 928 clutch is pretty easy to replace.
On the minus side, the parts are not cheap.
.
Some parts like the intermediate plate are NLA

"We heard the engine rev up and "bounce" off the rev limiter as the car completely disappeared in a cloud of smoke. As the cloud wafted it's way towards us, it became very apparent that it wasn't rubber smoke, but clearly the acrid smell of clutch."

What Greg is saying here is exactly what happened. When Michael Alan Ross and I went to see if there were any burn out marks....none. He never spun the rears. I can spin the rears in 2nd and 3rd.

Not sure about everyone here but I think burn outs are really stupid. A car that accelerates rapidly from 25mph is what we are looking for. I find that my car in 1st is kinda of a drag...from 2nd on is where it becomes fun. I really don't want to name the journalist, decent guy been a scribe for a long time, just not a car guy ( thinks he is). Some are sympathetic to mechanical bits and others are clueless. My best friend in high school was the easiest person I knew with cars. He became a professional racer getting 2nd in LeMans. He made a career being the middle driver for endurance races. He wasn't the fastest but he never broke anything.

If he had been able to get the tires spinning in 3rd or 5th gear (or whatever gear he was in), the smoke from the tires would have been able to be seen from the space station.....

I'd like to see one of Carl's "rebuilt" intermediate plates. It sounds like his rebuilder is replacing the entire center plate and not just "grinding" the two sides. (Grinding simply "masks" the "hot spots"....you can never make them go away on any of the clutch parts.....flywheel, pressure plate, or intermediate plate.

Maybe he was trying to engage launch control?

That is correct. Our center section is new and finished to original thickness. Our customers like them, I think you will too.

The car arrived yesterday afternoon. Clutch pedal feels normal. Engine shakes like something is really out of balance. The clutch will not move the car.....even slightly. And it is true, you can select any gear from neutral, without pushing down on the clutch pedal.

It's like someone stole the clutch discs.

I suspect that is close to the truth....I imagine the clutch lining fractured and flew off the discs.

That Corvette video hurt a bit.

I'm glad to hear that it is all being covered and hopefully it is just the clutch that bit the dust. It is just a single disk clutch right? Or did you have the earlier dual disk put in?

It's harder to kill an auto 928 and I still don't let others drive mine for fear they will destroy the trans trying to do the same smoky burnouts. As they say, you break it you buy it.

Default The animated story

[QUOTE=vanster;15650646]"We heard the engine rev up and "bounce" off the rev limiter as the car completely disappeared in a cloud of smoke. As the cloud wafted it's way towards us, it became very apparent that it wasn't rubber smoke, but clearly the acrid smell of clutch."

"What Greg is saying here is exactly what happened. When Michael Alan Ross and I went to see if there were any burn out marks....none. He never spun the rears. I can spin the rears in 2nd and 3rd".

I have got to hear this story in person so
Next time we meet I'll buy the Hendricks
