Default engine oil capacity to max mark, 79-84?

Looking for the 'practical' engine oil capacity to the MAX mark on a 79-84? Practical means including the oil filter (during oil filter change), and not from completely dry internals and oil cooler.
If you have to the MIN mark, that'll work too.

Reason for not 85-later, I'm not sure if the late-type dipstick max mark is the same or different.
Reason for not 78, it has a totally different capacity and dipstick.
No guesses please, just real data. Thanks!

JIm,
Hope I’m answering this correctly..
I’ve been changing oil in the 79 since 1995.
I put EXACTLY 8 and 1/2 quarts in her and it comes EXACTLY to the max mark. Every time.
This includes the oil filter. I usually try to fill the oil filter up toward the top before I screw it on.
I always had an extra 1/2 quart left over (after buying 9) Royal purple 20W50.

Sean usually did the GTS along with whatever else was needed, so I didn’t pay too close attention to it.
Maybe he was like Julia Child. A pinch more oil here, a pinch More there.....

I always needed extra oil for the GTS. She used at least a half Quart every 800 miles.

I remember the oil issue also glad it has been fixed by Greg , lizard and others , I think Roger sells the most recent oil control products

Just for reference, shows how simple the DIY oil change can be:

Make sure to read my update towards the end of the first post. No clips to remove, everything folds out of the way. The whole thing takes a few minutes of actual labor.

Hope this helps!

Since it got bumped, I guess I should update this.
Here's what I came up with for early 928 engine oil capacity and dipsticks.

You're welcome. Yes, I found the dipstick thing confusing too, and needed to figure it out. Depending on what dipstick you have, it's possible to overfill a 928 engine if using the max mark.

The dipstick goes WHERE?

I think you know where it goes, if ya get caught, unless the o-ring is swollen... And don't forget, if you don't push it in far enough, you get false readings, or blow-by... Leakage ya know.

Now, about those missing parts...

Jim explains this convoluted situation very well, I remember him telling me about this over the phone years ago...maybe while he was developing this graphic. I'll bet this took some time to get straight.
