thanks
Thanks to everyone for alerting me to carbon werks. John gave me some suggestions for resolving my "problem" with JustDashes. I will try to get my money back his way and then explore his dash method. It appears good to me, particularly if he can paint and texture it to match the interior. What I like about it is that it probably will solve the cracking dash problem of 928s. What an evolutionary improvement.

As long as there are demands, i have no problem making it. Fabricating a door panel, quater panel, hatch, fender, and etc. all possible. Just let me know what you need. I'll do my best and more to assist you guys.

The dash is definately a nice looking piece, but without a matching center console and big part with the hand grip in it, it would look funny to just have a carbon dash alone. If say 2-2500 for all 4 pieces could be done, I'd think you'd have some good interest in a package deal. Do the pod too while you're at it . Now that I'm thinking about it, you could tint/laquer (if that works on carbon) the original color of your dash and other parts turned to carbon. THAT would be trick!

Will the final finish on the 928 dashes be as smooth and shiny as the Ecilpse example shown? In the pic, the suface of the 928 dash looks a little textured and uneven.

The weave come in different colors, but more money. Tinting is possible too, but not recomended.
928 dash is in process of applying epoxy clear coating. That is why it looks odd right now. When it gets done, it will look as good as other dash you saw.

The pod needs to be flexible to remove and replace it. How would carbon fiber accomodate that requirement? I have been thinking about that and think it is not a good material for the pod. (?)

carbon is less flexible than glass or kevlar, but it is still a fiber reinforced plastic product. It has some flex, provided that only a few layers are used. It might work for a pod. I think a carbon faced glass piece would be better for that application, IMHO.
Carbonwerks, how did you get the surface to be UV stable? Every composite piece I have ever seen ends up yellowing after some years. As for the coloring, Isnt there a tint or dye that you can mix into the resins? I seem to remember seeing those on my last trip to the composites store. What sort of layup technique are you using? (Wet/ prepreg, atmosphere/vaccuum bag) That is some very nice work you have done there, outstanding stuff. I am just getting into the more advanced techniques, helping my school build their carbon monocoque race car chassis. Fun stuff! Carbon is amazing.

As you asked about the pod, im also getting that done and a custom hood too. As for the center console thats also in the plans on my half but i would rather not use my leather console to make a mold off of.

Heres an 996tt ..a bit tacky IMHO... IMHO.
This is an M3 done in silver body panels...
How about busting out a few of these....just the shell. Heck ill find the paddding and covering myself!!!
BTW...im talkign about the seat guys
On the subject of carbon fiber....although this isnt, its a pretty cool interior covering. Its actually vinyl i think. It was on topper bed of a truck at SEMA. I asked everyone and they had no clue. Who made it. It really looked good.IMHO
Also..how about a carbon S4 rear wing? Just an idea. Im going to color match mine to the car anyway, but some may want one in Carbon weave.

i am a starter for light-weight interior panels, as many different ones as could be molded! i cant believe just how heavy the stock interior pieces are but im not ready to go to a bare metal look just yet in a quest to save weight.
what a shame you all drive on the wrong side of the road, if you didnt id definitely be up for a dashboard! as it is i think a complete carbonfibre interior is not tacky at all but a very appealing compromise between weight saving and cosmetics.
