I always thought you were an Army cannon cocker. Why did you go over to the Dark Side? Once a Marine Always a Marine

1979 Celica "MidAm" edition
Bought this little gem with 95k on it when I turned 16.. When I was 19, it had 230k on it when someone decided to steal the 20r out of it while parked at an apartment... Lots of great memories in this ride.. Followed by a line of SAABs like many others here..

Those 80s Celicas were amazing.

I went into the Marines out of high school, did 8 years active, then took a 12 year break in service before going into the Guard. I looked at the Marine Reserve when I went into the Guard, but the nearest unit was a Wing Support Squadron, and that's not any fun. In the Guard, I was a tanker, then a Fire Supporter (forward observer), and now I'm an artillery warrant officer. So, not a 'cannon cocker', per se, but definitely a Red Leg.

Shawn, thanks, for the update. I too am a retread, Marine enlisted, Navy Commissioned, retired O-6 back in 92, after 32 years active & reserve. Love the pension, benefits.
BTW: Nice Pantera. Do you still have it? |
Lets see for my 79 it was a 78 Chevy Nova with a 3 speed on the tree bright yellow. (USAF in Michigan)
for the 83 it was a 1961 Mercedes diesel 190D and a 1978 Fiat X1/9 (Stationed in Germany USAF) For the 91 it was 1985 Buick Station wagon and a 1988 Ford Taurus (Married with 2 young kids) I prefer today where I have 3 928's and a 2012 Toyota Tundra. Single and living the life without someone asking how much money I am putting into that Car or this car. Or do you really need 3 of them? My answer has always been I need at least 2 more, and 86.5 and a GTS. |
In 1987 there was a new 1988 model year VW GTI. Some of the fondest car memories were in that car..... miss it actually. Maybe I should try to find one on CL or auto trader ! And hide it from the better half!! :icon501:

89 GT....so, back in 89.... was riding a 89 Kawasaki EX-500, had the 83 Chevette Scooter behind it..and had the 76 Buick LeSabre (with requisite rust) replacing the Chevette when it went out to my brother in SoCal.

For my 82 track car..... in 82 I didn't have a car but had use of our family car (79 z28) and my brothers 64 Dart Convertible (while he was at college). Couldn't find pics so using internet sourced images that are close..

In 1995 I traded my 87 928 S4 5-speed for a 1995 midnight blue 5-speed that I still have today.

Wow. I'm not sure if I should congratulate you on at least staying with a Sea Service, or bust your nuts for finishing up as a dirty squid! :roflmao: I am very much looking forward to retirement. I should pin CW3 later this year, after which I have two years of obligated service and another year to make High 3. By then I'll by 60 and I'll be eligible to collect my retirement check (Reserve Forces don't collect until age 60, regardless of years of service).
BTW: Nice Pantera. Do you still have it? I was 3531, when I was a Marine, never drove a truck, there's zero promotions in Motor T. I just wanted to go home to Hawaii, and work on the ocean going tugs, and make big money. My Dad, was Port Captain for Young Brothers Towing. He convinced me to go to the Merchant Marine Academy, Took my Commission in the Navy Reserve, when I graduated. Same guy that conned me to enlist in the Marine Corps. Did most of my time between active and reserve, Military Sea Lift Command, and Salvage Diving for the Navy. I had a fantastic career. |
