Tyre swapping - anything I should know of?
Yesterday night I noticed (like most 928 owners have) that the inside treads of three of my tyres are worn out (one really badly, but at least saveable).
The only thing saving me from wasting 9500 rands (I've got 255/40/17 on the back and 205/50/17 on the front) on 4 new tyres is taking the tyres off the rims and changing them around so the insides are on the out.
1. They will probably have to lift the car to do this?
2. What will it do to my alignment?
3. Anything I should watch out for or remind them of?
I recently aligned my wheels at a Porsche specialist, so the running out is probably from before the alignment.

How many miles since the alignment and what sort of driving? - also, if this is a result of a prior set up, I'd expect an alignment 'specialist' to have noted it: check your print-out or talk to the shop.
As far as flipping tires left to right, no problem: if the tires are 'directional', reinstall with respect to the arrows.
Jacking/lifting the car cannot hurt the alignment, but I think you meant, "will changing tires side to side effect handling/directional stability?" _ Yes, if the tires have a pronounced wear pattern, you may notice some quirky handling: however, from the way the wear is described, I suspect it's quite liveable vs. 9500 Rand!
If you're going back to the same shop, I'd keep good records beginning with the alignment job on: should reversing the tires still result in accelerated inside wear with 'reasonable' use - the shop is going to owe you both a credit for prorated tire wear and a fresh alignment. Otherwise, you'd be correct in assuming it was all due to a prior condition - carry on and enjoy bthe remaining life in the rubber!

Well, it was about 1500 kms back I think, and the guy (a real Porsche specialist, but he sent the car somewhere else for an alignment) said the alignment wasn't that far off.
I phoned him a little while back, so he said I can bring the car in so we can take it to the wheel alignment guy and confirm it. He can then change the tyres around and balance the wheels as well.
These days you can't accept anything anybody does, and 50% of the time you either go back or are so unhappy that you never take it there again...

if the tires are worn on one edge dont swap them replace them, and it just means you arent driving hard enough and the roads are too straight your not using the camber to your advantage,

BTW, assure that the alignment shop either,
- does NOT lift the front suspension at any time, or
- recompresses the front as per the WSManuel prior to adjustment
To omit this will assure inner tire wear.( check the archives, recent threads)
If the setup is done correctly and attention paid to finding and maintaining optimal tire pressures, a 928 will wear tires quite evenly - agressive driving included.

Who are you using for your alignment? I have run my S4 for nearly 10 years (288,000km) and have not yet been able to find an alignment shop in the Johannesburg area that consistently does the job right.
On the subject of tyres I have used Yoko's, Bridgestones and Pirellis at various times but have found the Toyo's to be the best compromise in terms of tyre wear rates and handling (not to mention the cost)

Hi there
I take mine to Tigerwheel & Tyre Menlyn Motorcity and never had any problems.
They've got two alignment machines make sure they use they one with witch they don't need to lift the car.
You can have the tyres scrubbed if the side wear is not to much, my experience is swapping it around does not make much difference once there out they're gona stay that way.
