928 door, window, and latch day....
So last night at Taco Bell (kids) I rolled down the window at the drive through, got my junk, and rolled the window up.
No window roll up. 25 degrees and this again. So drove it home with the heat full on, turned off all lights/accessories and checked the current draw. With the engine idling I could see the 12v voltage indicator drop a bit when I tried the switch, so the motor was jammed. Powered down, went inside.
Today I took the door apart. Pulled the motor, put it on the bench, and took the motor apart. Sure enough one of the magnets shed a bit of magnet and it jammed the armature. Cleared it, brushed any rust off the armature, re-oiled everything, put it together, fine again. Fixed a few other door-related things, then closed it up and thought "Hey, I can fix the passenger door and window while I'm out here. Door handle doesn't work, window doesn't work.
Same problem for the passenger side (except the pole was also greased with something that turned to mud, I just cleaned it off completely) but when I went to check the door handle I saw the latch was fine, the linkage was on, but it was too short to engage the door release. Great. Now how in the heck can one get in there to remove the linkage and lengthen it? Are there more special 928 tools, or is there a write up on pulling that security plate, lock motor, and everything else in the way of things?
Reassembled it for now, but will need to fix this if I'm going to pass tech for the march DE stuff...

Unfortunately I had to button everything up as it's going to be *COLD* this week. But in a nutshell there is a link that goes from the door handle down to the latch release mechanism. That part is intact, but the screws are run all the way into the turnbuckle link so it's too short to trip the door latch.
The door latch release does move a *bit* but not enough to open the door from the outside. The solution is simple: Increase the length of the link. However that requires you to turn the link which I can't do because there is no clearance around it due to the power locking mechanism or the anti theft plate.
I tried to remove some screws to get the plate and locking mechanism out, but they seem to be connected at multiple points. Thus the question: How do you take the door locking system apart?
At least you don't have to pull the engine :-)

remove the security plate then you should be able to pop one end off the ball mount ,
then turn the turn buckle use needle nose pliers to hold the threaded shaft

No tricks required (If there were I dont remember them), but LOTS of curses involved. Once I had it out, I knew it was never going back in....Nothing else was removed, but maybe that was the problem?

Ok. I tried one screw on the upper left, but something else is holding it in. Next time the panel comes off I'll try pulling it out. Now that I think about it, I don't remember there being one on the driver's side when that link got disconnected and thanks to the hook trick it seems silly to have the plate in there anyway. I guess it protected against drilling a hole in the door and popping the latch or something.
