Thanks for that info. Looking at that and the photos, I'm sure that the current sealing caps won't work for at least two reasons. I'm also noticing that the overall design of that bulb is going to make sealing it a little more challenging than it was for the LUMILEDS bulbs. What you call the "slight flare" works against having an O-ring seal with a cap. I'll have to think about it a bit and see if it's time to revisit a more modular design that I had in mind that would allow swapping out sealing cap centers to accommodate different bulb designs.
I can't tell for sure from the photos, but is there any seal between the black 3-tab flange part and the gold barrel of the bulb? I can't make one out anywhere. Without a seal there, it seems that contaminants could pass between those two surfaces.
The grey strip in pointing to, is a silicone ring/seal that the base ring (For adjustment you can turn the bulb in this, it IS snug). It cant walk up off the seal..it sits nicely on it.
I'm running https://vintagecarleds.com/ 7” lights on my 86.5 and 2 Beetles. Great quality and bright. They have standard and Hella Glass as an option for sealed beam bulb replacement. NOTE: you have to change the relay to a 53, as the US cars came with a set up to turn off the fogs when the brights are engaged (a few threads on the technical issue).
Otherwise they are gorgeous if you want H4 Hella glass bulbs.
