I have a 1983 Porsche 928 and just a couple days ago I closed the hatch and it no longer stays latched anyone have a solution

Could be a few things. Common for the key mechanism to not return to proper verticle position after being opened. When its cold out, the dry/cold grease sticks holding it open. After you turn key to open, manually turn key counterclockwise to original position before removing. I got in the habit of doing that years ago. Also, if the plastic insert in body side mechanism is busted or has pieces broken off ,it can block hatch side from latching. Worst case is lock mechanism has a broken pawl inside. I don`t believe that part is available separate from lock. Hope this helps.
