Default Considering parting with my 92 GTS 5-speed

Hi there fellow 928-ers.

I am at a point where I'm considering selling my GTS. I bought the car in 2016 knowing it was in need of some TLC, and service records weren't present...so since then I have done a lot of work on it. Some because it was needed, but also a lot for preventive reasons and some just because I wanted it to be new and shiny. The car is very nice, it has rolled 149000km and it is a C00 Germany car. No rubstrips and no sunroof. Exterior I would say 8/10, interior 9/10. I has been repainted at some stage during it's life, and at some point it has had some damage to the rear, but nothing in supporting structure or involving drivetrain etc. So - even if this is a GTS 5-speed it would probably not reach top dollars at any auction or something like that, but it is still a very nice and now in very good condition GTS 5-speed. I also have a Certificate of Authenticity stating it is matching numbers etc. Original and working Blaupunkt Symphony RDS with books and code cards.

Any takers? Any opinions of value are also welcome. I am thinking maybe around €50000?
The car is located in Norway, Europe. It was imported from EU to Norway in 2016. It still has EU papers and has not been registered in Norway. But I am unsure if it would trigger VAT or not, if the car was to be reimported to EU.

Here's a list of what I have done to the car. I've probably forgot a lot of small details, but I think it covers most of it. Most of this work was done during 2018. I have not done intake refresh (not needed yet) or cam cover gaskets. Cam cover gaskets would be next on the list as there are signs of oil residue around them. There are also some small electrical issues left to be taken care of, I guess you will never be completely done with a car like this

New gearbox oil
New differential cover gasket
New engine oil
New air filter
New spark plugs
New timing belt
New tensioner (PKT-S)
New water pump
New cam sprocket gears
New hall sensor
New rotors
New distributor caps
New engine ground cables (3 pcs)
New battery ground cable
New coolant
New thermostat incl o-ring and rear gasket
New coolant pressure sensor (was bypassed)
New coolant reservoir cap
New heater valve and short hose
New power steering hose
New power steering reservoir
New steering rack bushings
New steering rack bellows
New tie rod ends
New engine mounts
New oil pan gasket (original cork)
New rubber gasket oil suction tube
New alternator hose
New alternator belt
New air condition belt
New power steering belt
New lower control arm bushing (1 pcs)
New O2 sensor
New o-ring oil dipstick
New dashboard and center console bulbs
New Bilstein shocks
New Rear Muffler Bypass (Original Porsche Technik)
New X-Pipe (Ritech)
New engine oil cooler
New to me 2nd hand 94-95 original Cup 2 rims. Original Cup 1 rims on shelf.
New Michelin PS2 N3 tyres on Cup 2's

Nice car, I wonder what it would take to get it to the states? Anyone with experience on what it costs and the time it takes?

Roger shipped his SE from the U.K. to TX a few years ago. Not very expensive and fairly easy when car is over 25 years old. Shipping to Norway on the other hand is pricey. Incoming cars pay a big tax. T

T,

So you think it would be reasonable to get it here?

Mine was $2,200 from Germany (Kaiserslautern) to Texas last year (door-to-door) and it took about 6 weeks. Could have saved a little money and about a week had I just picked it up in Houston, the port of entry. Cost can vary greatly based on port of entry, whether its containerized, marine insurance, etc. Delivery can also be delayed a couple weeks due to storms in the Atlantic. Mine was a military move and the car was returning to Texas so it wasn't considered an import - so unfortunately I can't help you with that process or how much butt hurt is involved.

I shipped my cars overseas and back 5 times during my 30 years. My $.02 to anyone doing this, have a fresh battery put in the car before shipping.. Remove any non-essential relays to avoid parasitic drain--the intent is to avoid them trying to jump start it. Also consider removing interior light bulbs. If there's a switch, button, or ****, you can bet someone's going to sit in your car and see what it does. Anything that can be removed (ashtray, antenna, cargo net, tools, air compressor, etc.) should be inventoried and boxed and sealed separately inside the car. No more than 1/4 tank of gas.

C'mon man.

You've been here long enough.

The answer to about 90% of the questions asked about these cars is:

"Ask Roger."

Seriously, my understanding is that if the car is over 25 years old (production date, not model year) then it's pretty simple.

The real question for the seller is it worth more in North America or Europe. I think there is strong demand in Europe, but what do I know.

Good point! It seems that the super nice early cars are being shipped to Europe to some serious collectors. But I'm not so sure that the late cars are doing quite as well as they are in the States (my impression.)

I like to look at them all because it helps me recognize the good ones and build some history on the cars still out there. It would be great if all 928 owners put their cars in the 928 OC registry...

Enjoy!

You guys are all wrong. The big 928 market is in China. A guy named Lambert posted this at least a year ago. You guys are so far behind you may never catch up.

T, Correct.
That is where his last sale went, but China is where he said the big market was.
Remember the last couple cars he picked up on concrete block supported ramps from ground level into the back of the box truck?
Those cars were destined for China.
Mark his words!!
