Pretty sure the sheathing on my throttle cable from quadrant to TB is broken, or maybe this is normal? is it still ok to use?.
when I slide it back into the housing, the knurled portion, towards the right, seems to lock into the other part and secure the cable
in place. it does not seem to be an issue. but maybe I am not understanding the function?
Mine was like that and was fine initially. I just replaced it because the plastic clips that hold it into place crumbled apart on me when I removed them.
A replacement is only $50 anyways from a dealer so if it does break you're covered
A long time ago mine broke on my 86.5 5-speed while I was on the road. As I recall, the result was a stuck throttle at high RPM and dead gas pedal. Because it was a manual car, I was able to quickly/instinctively control it and drove to the nearest safe spot to shut it down and proceeded to call Mark Anderson in a bit of a panic. He helped me troubleshoot that my throttle cable had broken in two (I believe from a part of it fraying over time).
Not sure if thats what you were asking about "effect on engine running", but it reminded me of that fun incident.
