1981 928 Newbie Questions
I just purchased a 1981 928 and had a couple of questions. First, the passenger side bonnet for the headlight is loose. I noticed it is missing a screw and a bracket(?) that holds the bonnet at the bottom. Can anyone provide information on the part and how to install the bracket?
The 928 is also quite low and I find that it is bottoming out, regardless of how slow I go, when in parking structures. Is that common?
Also, any opinions on using synthetic oil? The service history on the 928 indicates that synthetic oil is being used.
Lastly, any recommendations for a good mechanic in Los Angeles.
TIA, Andrew

Andrew,
Read the new visitor post up front on the site. It has answers to your ride height question and a wealth of info and pointers. You car is likely too low. It handles much better when set correctly.
I don't have an opinion on the synth oil, but there have been many discussions on this. Spend some time searching the site and you will find answers to that.
The local supplier in your area is 928 International. They can help you source about anything you need in parts. They are in Anaheim. You can find a link to them in the new visitor post (see a trend here? :-).
Finally, join Rennlist as you will be using it often with a new 1981. They are great cars, but require TLC to keep them in top shape. No matter what you run into, someone on this site has seen it before.

Be caregful about synthetic oil. Some have experienced (myself included) new leaks when using it. It manages to get through holes that ordinary oil doesn't.

Welcome, agreed read the new use info, if the car feels to low have an alignment done by a shop familiar with 928s, they should set the ride height at the same time,
as per synthetic oil I have a 1986.5 928S w/ 276,000km on the clock and I am running synthetic oil in it w/o any problems or any leaks.
the only thing i wouldnt run synthetic in is a FRESH engine w/ new piston rings and I would run dino oil in it for the ring seating proccess for say 1500km then i would convert to synthetic
