Default Green Wire Replacement

Sorry if this is redundant, but I've searched the "green wire" posts and thought I knew exactly where to locate it. I recieved my new green wire today and after looking it over I'm not too sure I know right were to find it. Is the green wire bundled with all the other wires harnessed to the ignition module?

look at the distributer and it comes out from the metal below the cap toward the rear and runs across the front of the engine all by itself (to avoid electrical interference and plugs in to the wiring harness along the fender just in front of the engine right side . To replace it you will need to at a minimum pull the distributor up a bit before removing the hold down bolt you should mark the location since this sets the timing advance . before pulling up on the distributor MARK the location orientation of the rotor . As you pull up on the housing the rotor will turn a bit because of the angle of the gear drive mark this "new" rotor location . When you push the distributor housing back down the rotor should turn from the "new" location back to the old . line up the mark for the holddown location and install the bolt . Be sure to check the birthdate on the package for the green wire the 10:07:2003 have been checking correctly .......

You may be able to change the wire with out moving the distributor the hold down bracket for the cap also holds the plug in place with a short screw driver remove the slotted screw .......unhook the cap on that side first .

Seems that my previous confusion surrounding the local of the green wire was because my existing "green" wire is, in fact, a "black" wire and appears to be some sort of hack job.

You know, when one is having problems with gremlins the immediate reaction to a find so obviously wrong, such as this, is joy. "This is so wrong that it has to be a major cause of the problems....etc., etc." but that immediate response quickly evolves into "What the F@#$ were they thinking."

The green wire has an outer twisted wire shield and a separate insulated wire core which carries the small electrical signal from the Hall sensor in the distributor . The outer ground shield protects the inner wire from electrical interference which could cause erratic ignition timing . These wires are a common source of Ignition timing problems as they fail . A " piece of black wire" unless it is shielded will give you grief ............

Done!

I'll have to post pics of the old wire for you to appreciate this, but what a mess. Insulation complately degraded in some spots. I was able to turn the distributer clockwise and use a long screwdriver to reach the hard to get to bracket screw. Lifting the distributer was not necessary.
