Interior light gremlin
My interior lights have decided to a bit more independent than I wish. First, they all work. When fliped to the on position they will turn off when the doors are locked with the key.
They will go on when the door is opened and go off when the car is started. After a few blocks they all come on again and won't go off until I manually turn each one off.
I suspect that maybe it's hatch related....These are part of the issues of a car that has been completely apart and reassembled.
What should I attack first?

I just had an issue wherein my hatch release buttons, interior lights, and radio all lost power. Although fuse #26 (hatch release) was intact, fuse #24 (interior lights) was busted. I replaced it and got all three back.

Some part of that circuit is grounding inside somewhere. Check the door and hatch switches and the leads on them. I was with my wrench and a customer once, standing by the rear of a 928 chatting, and we smelt something plastic getting hot....as we turned and looked in through the closed rear hatch, we saw a wisp of smoke and drips coming out of the rear of the roof lining - the hatch inside light had decided it was time to short out. Could have been nasty if we hadnt been there.

One of the first non critical things I fixed in my 86.5 was the interior lighting fuse blowing every 2 trips or so. The electrical ribbon cable supplying some electrical power from the roof to the hatch traverses the hinged opening gap from the roof to the hatch above the rear window. The cable can get chafed from being pinched as the roof opens/closes over the years. Check that cable for opens/shorts. You have to remove the hatch interior liner to do this. You don’t have to remove the roof liner.

i just went through the process of fixing my interior lights
be sure to check all door pins, and the hatch pin.. which is prone to breaking off at end and grounding out.
also check all of the wires in and out of the lights... the dome light cooks them over time.
I replaced all bulbs with LED's for good measure.

Thanks
My guess is that it's in the ceiling near the hatch. The hatch was removed when the car was painted so my guess is that it's chaffing somewhere in that area. I have replaced all the interior blubs with LED's as well as the tail lights.

Start with the hatch switch - pull off the connector under the hatch receiver brown/white wire (insulate)
If not that then check each light fixture in the roof & hatch (the doors are probably OK) look for broken connectors...
