Default Wiring

I’m not sure if I’m doing this right, I just joined the forum. I am picking up on a build from a friend. It’s a 1981 928 and I’m trying to wire it. It’s full of aftermarket parts and while looking at each parts wiring diagram they seem to begin to conflict with each other. (I’m sure mostly because I have no idea what I’m doing) and one of my HUGE wiring questions which I’ve seen a lot of is this fantastic green wire. I have a MSD 6AL-2 ignition control, MSD boost timing master, J&S knock sensor, and a F10X ECU.

Again im not sure if I’m doing this right, or even exactly how I can get help.. I’m just looking for something. Thank you for your time.

Is this a US-spec car? Are the ballast resistors and original "spark box" still in place? The ballast resistors are on the left side up near the radiator in front of the original coil and the spark box is the module that is located opposite of the resistors on the right side and beneath the charcoal canister if I recall correctly.

it’s been replaced by the MSD blaster 2

My question about this “green wire” is, is this the “12v trigger”? Which includes the points, electric ign, and ECU? Because if this one little wire does all of that for me I’ve solved one of my problems.

The green wire serves as the Hall Effect sensor. The TSZ module can't know what's going on at the distributor without the electromagnetic pulse provided by the green wire.

so I would need to find a way to connect the remaining wires I need and some how implement the green wire as well?

The 6al-2 is supposed to work with a hall sensor trigger (the green wire) not sure what the Haltech F10x needs for timing. It has a 120 page instructional manual !!!!!

yes it is, I probably won’t be leaving them there. I am moving soon and live in Guam so I’m just trying to get it running, driving, then as close to street legal as possible so the navy will ship it for me.

when im going through all of the diagrams everything wants 3 wires coming from the distributor but the j&s knock sensor says it just has 1 green wire going into it I just can’t find where the green wire goes and I’m hoping it didn’t get ripped out when the car was gutted.

The/any Hall sensor is going to have two conductors for the sensor itself, plus a shield, for a total of three. The "green wire" is really a "green cable" as it includes all three conductors in one sheath. Hall sensors are extremely sensitive to magnetic and electrical noise nearby the sensor itself and any unshielded conductors. the shield is grounded at one end only, so that ground loops in the shield cable can't induce noise on the signal conductors.

It sounds like you are under some serious time constraints, and if so, you have certainly come to the right place. I hope the help you get here helps the Navy to get your 928 to Guam, and from that reference I infer that I should thank you for your service, and thanks!

NOW THIS IS WHAT I WANTED TO HEAR! Thank you very much. I can easily make the other end of it if I have too. I just knew I had to use this wire and had no idea how but this made all my diagrams make sense. Thank you.

im actually trying to get it from Guam to the US which is worse because the few things I have to order cost a fortune to get out here. And thank YOU for your service. I wouldn’t be able to be here if it weren’t for those who paved the road before me.
