Sunroof cable replacement
I need to replace the sunroof cables on my '85 928.
Do I need to remove the roof liner to complete the switch or is it possible to do it with the roof liner in place?
Any info is greatly appreciated.

You should not need to remove the headliner to replace the cables. The sunroof sits in a metal pocket so to speak, the headliner covers in inside of that pocket.
The cables enter the interior of the car via guide tubes, so there is really no need to remove any more than the sunroof motor cover and motor/gear box on the inside of the car.

good luck!
what about the shuttles that connect at the cable ends, which actualy pull the sunroof? wouldnt you need to completely remove the whole thing to get at them?

I've managed to replace the sunroof cables last night. The following needs to be removed or moved to get the job done:
Remove the sunroof from the car.
Then Remove the 3 phillips head screws from each side of the rail. Access the screws from the top of the car with the removed.
After the screws are removed the rails can be gently lifted with a large flat head screwdriver.
After this, the large cross brace of the sunroof can be pulled off the rails.
Following this, the sun roof motor needs to be acessed by removing the cover on the back of the roof liner (near the hatch).
Disconnect the sunroof motor transmission from the roof (2 - 8mm nuts).
Pull the transmission away fromt he cables. You can leave the rubber coupler in place.
After the transmission is removed the cables can be pulled out from the FRONT of the sunroof rails.
The installation of the new cables is the revers of the removal. Make sure the cables and rails get some lubrication.
I hopethis helps.
P.S. The "shuttle" is part of the calbe. The plastic shuttle is molded to the cable. Mine were both broken off by the PO.

Sunroof cable re engagement
Can anyone help how i re connect the cables to the "feet?"
Currently the cables (red) arrow are pressed up against the feet(blue arrow) but are not hooked on.
What do i need to do? Unscrew nut #3? then lift out the feet and hook in the end of the cable?
Also which screw(s) are the tilt/height adjustment? #2 and #3?
