Default New 928 Owner

After owning a project 944 (purchased for $400) for two years, and doing serious research on 928s for over a year, I finally pulled the trigger on an '81 manual. The car was owned by a guy who has a specialty race car shop based on 928s. This was his personal car and had owned it for 20 years and done some nice upgrades: Koni coilovers, Porsche Turbo Twist wheels, Euro cam, ported and polished head, short-throw shifter and a few other items. I was very impressed with my '86 944 build quality and ride quality (after I got it running), and have since begun my Porsche passion. The 944 needed almost everything, took me a while to even get it running. I ended up pulling the transmission and fuel tank, I replaced the belts, most of the front seals, rollers, reference sensors, heater control valve, starter, fuel pump etc etc. I found doing the work to be very rewarding and helped build my confidence that I could work on a 928. My other big hang up was that in order for the wife to sign off, I was going to have to sell my comparable (in use) 2007 Shelby GT, which I love and have owned for seven years. As much as I love it, I couldn't really envision a scenario where I would drive two GT cars enough. I will post up a comparison of the two cars later. I know I read everything I could find from owners of both. One of the things that really helped me make my decision was the community of 928 owners. They just seemed a much better fit for me and my personality at the point in my life. I spent much time on this site reading and learning during the year I was seriously considering the 928. I am extremely happy with my decision. I looked forward to spending more time year and contributing more than I have up to this point. Thanks.

Congrats and welcome.
Shelby GT though is somewhat of a collectible and you're now selling it at the lowest value. You may regret it someday. Why not spend some money you would lose by selling the Shelby by buying flowers, dinners, and SHOWS for your wife and convince her to keep both! Sell the 944. I started looking for 944 but once I turned my attention to 928s, I never looked back.

Did the last owner repainted it Schwarz metallic? It is a rare (if unavailable) on 928, so it was probably an aftermarket paint job. Love metallic black.

Welcome! I agree with Hoi...well on the color...it's great. You know your wife best and so do what ya gotta do to keep the happy life rhyme ringing true.

Car looks great without the rubbies. I look forward to hearing your impressions between your Mustang and the 928. Hugely different cars from vastly different era's in time. Should be interesting.

I'm sure I will regret it, and yes, not a good time to sell. But I need to the money to pay for the 928. The 944 isn't worth enough to sell it. The Shelby is a pretty close trade. Plus I would use for basically the same purpose, both V8 GT cars. As much as I'd like to keep it, just to keep it. I'm ready to let her go to a new home. If anyone is interested...PM me.

It is a re-paint, but the previous owner said it was the original color. It's not black, sort of dark grey with almost a hint of brown. Brown interior.
