Default Oil control ring dilemma

Yet another quandry refreshing my M28/22 Euro spec....Bought the correct(?) Goetz ringset. Compression ring gaps check out within the 0.2-0.4mm range (sit around 0.3 throughout) but the oil control ring springs are way off. Placing them in the bores the ends overlap. Options 1) wrong ringset, I don't think so. 2) trim the springs 3) stick the old control rings/springs back in - the new design is very different to the old design. Thoughts?...oh yes sorry pictures!

Old ring top compared with new ring bottom..note the overlap on the new ring. Hadn't expected to need to cut anything, grind maybe, cut no...

Goetze rings are **** these days... I guess you got yours from ECP?

I changed the compression rings - the originals at 120k were at 0.3 to 0.35, while the new Goetzes were at 0.25. However I am re-using the original split oil control rings - still at 0.60 and hence in spec. The new single design oil control ring is rubbish. Had a set disappear in a mildly tuned GT engine in 25к miles... Btw, mine is a 32v...

i know what they are

just saying the new style oil control ring - the H lying on its side style is easier to install, but not as good as the original split rings design

There are 2 different designs of Goetz oil control rings. That is the old design.

The new one is much better, it's been a commonly discussed topic on the 944 board. I used 951 rings to get the new design ring in the 5.0 I'm building.

I think using the old rings is the way to go as well as long as they are in spec. Kinda regretting changing them at all but time for changing my mind is passed
