Remove 16v engine, driving me nuts. *SOLVED* !!
Hi all.
I'm going crazy trying to figure this out.
1982 5 speed 16v 928S. I'm stripping out the driveline, a few parts of the car then sending it to scrapyard as body is wrecked.
So far I've dropped the exhausts, taken bottom bellhousing and start off, removed TT splined thing and clutch, taken off clutch slave cylinder, removed 4 x 19mm Bellhousing bolts to upper bellhousing.
I've removed radiator, AC pump, alternator etc etc....pretty much everything from the front of the engine. I've disconnected everything I can see like fuel lines, power steering hoses, cooling/heater hoses etc etc....
The engine *shouldn't* be connected to the car by anything more than the mounts now.
I removed 2 X 17 MM bolts on both sides from underneath....what appear to be the mount brackets onto the block on both sides. They were about all I could see under there?...I'm thinking the actual mounts bolt onto the xmember with a single bolt but it's hidden away behind a big plate on the bottom of the xmember with 17 and 13 mm bolts/nuts and the steering rack. I can't get to any of that.
So I was hoping I could disconnect the brackets from the block, and leave the mounts and the whole shebang still attached to the xmember. Oh, I also unbolted those little shock absorber things on each side near the mounts.
So, my problem..... I'm trying to get the engine out and it seems the right hand side (looking at the car from the front) broke free (as it seems to move up an inch or so) but the LHS seems to be stuck. I've tried wriggling and pushing and a crow bar and yelling but this engine is not moving.
What am I missing here ??
This is driving me crazy.
Any advice gratefully appreciated !|

As always, take a picture and post it with the dilemma... If the car is "wrecked" it implies that there is damage and that may be what is impeding your progress.
Yelling; while feeling good, does not work all that well. ;-)
After a wreck, sometimes a cutting torch is the answer... Hint: Have a fire extinguisher handy!

I'm going to agree with this.
There are two FOUR bolts on each 'motor mount to engine block'. 2 8mm (13 mm head), 2 10 mm (17 mm head).
Dwayne's writeup on the motor mounts has good pictures of it.
Also illustration 109-00 in the 83-86 PET.

This is an '82, doesn't it have the old mounts with only 2 bolts per side? Did the transmission and torque tube get slid back so the engine is separated from the bellhousing? Engine ground strap removed? If the motor mount bolts are up you at least should be able to lift the motor straight up unless the bellhousing is still hung up on the locating dowels..

Isn't the harness going to the alternator connected to the frame/crossmember by the driver's side engine mounts? Easily missed and forgotten. Not sure if you mentioned you had disconnected this connection.

Hi all.....
Thank you all very much for your responses. Sorry I didn't reply earlier, got a cold and was off my feet for a while.
Good news is....engine is out !
Turns out I made a stupid mistake. I was using lifting straps front and back of the block and it turned out the rear strap was caught on the steering shaft/knuckle, so I was trying to lift the whole car on that side.
A bit of refitting (and slicing through the big alternator wire on the other side I'd also forgotten about with a hacksaw) and all was well !
Came out wonderfully.
Thank you all again for taking the time to help me out, I greatly appreciate it !
