after answering the previous question.
Did you check the two fuses for the hatch motor

The hatch motor works. When you push the button to open the hatch you can se e the motor working and the hatch unlocks. You then can open it by hand but it does not open automagically (lol). I assume that it should do that. The lower hatch insert is original.

OP ,
are you suggesting that when the button is operated,
then the hatch latching mechanism runs, the the hatch unlocks.
( up to this point this is normal operation of the hatch)
Then the hatch should raise to the open position?
If so then this was not a design option to have the hatch go to fully open.
This option is used on newer cars that also include bumper position sensors,
and new computers to discern all the sensors info. and of course the required raising device.
That said the hatch can be raised by hand and will stay in the raised position unless the hatch shocks are weak,
Then the hatch can close on its own,
NOTE the hatch shocks are 100 LB shocks

As was noted, the hatch doesn't lift up on it's own.
You need to put fingers under the lip and lift.
However, it shouldn't take very much effort. And it should stay up all the way.
If it takes a lot of effort to lift, or if it sags after being lifted, the struts may be 'tired'.
The gas struts wear out over time.
Roger has the correct ones (for both hood & hatch) at a reasonable price.

Ignore the website. It lists a few things, but nowhere near his total inventory.
Call or email with what you want.
He has everything that's available.
He posts as "ROG100" on here.
Very, very nice fella. Knows and loves these cars (has like 10 of them) as well as anyone on here.

Ok, for anyone who looks at this thread and wonders:
"Just how is the hatch supposed to open?"
I was just at the grocery store and put the bags in back (yes, I use my 928 as a 'grocery getter' )
Unlocking the hatch makes it pop up 'just a bit'.
Putting my fingers in the gap and lifting, it takes minimal effort to lift it. Two fingers is adequate.
Once it gets just above 'level' (with the back maybe an inch or two above the roof), it lifts the rest of the way all by itself.
Closing is the exact opposite.
Minimal effort to pull it down. Once it gets to level (or maybe a bit above) it drops the rest of the way and latches itself.
Struts came from Roger and have been in since spring of 17.
