Hi. I have a euro 1986.5 S2. The passenger seat will only incline forward and won't recline.

As its an 86 I have the later switches on the side and they seem like they dont easily open like the earlier ones for cleaning. I am worried its the motor.

Any advice would be very welcome as my girlfriend keeps accidentally hitting the wrong switch and slowly but surly she is doubling herself over!!

First task is to isolate the faulty switch. Not sure of the particular switch design you have but I remember when I got my 81s it was fitted with the round switches rather than the rectangular cross type. For some reason several of them were in pieces - probably because the switch cap clips were weak, not sure but I was able to reassemble them. There is a ball bearing/spring and sewsaw arrangement inside that needs to make contact to provide seat actuation. When you are fiddling with it you can check switch continuity (and therefore chance of it working) with a multimeter. Easiest way is to "take one apart" using jewellers screwdriver to understand the mechanism.. Best of luck, oh and if you are going inside the switch, do it over a white sheet in case the internals ping out.. ask me how I know....
