What is the red one with the white wire? It goes to nothing on my car and has something that looks like a factory plug in the other end.

It is a diagnostics sensor, not used by anyone or anything anymore.

For the dealer service RPM sensor,
I remove it from the bell housing then JB weld a quarter over the opening.

NOTE based on the color of the crank position sensor thats fitted a few inches infront of the one your removing,
it might be time to replace it,
as the normally white collar where the wire goes into the sensor is now turning tan this is a clue that the part is old .
