Console wires?
Do any of the wires protruding from my console look to you like they belong in an '89 GT? The PO had a radar detector (actually, two) installed by someone with a fondness for silicone sealant and some tarry black glue, and the wires (including two ribbon cables!) were connected to what I surmise to have been the display for one of the RDs.
I'd like to remove all of the wires that don't belong.

Re: Console wires?
I don't think so. Removing the center console is not that bad and you can easily see where the BS wiring has been tapped into what should be there(which isn't that much really). I've attached a picture of 95% restored 88S4 console wiring. Same as an 89 GT. The only wires not replaced as delivered from the factoiry are the thick red, thin red and brown wires for the Radio which have electrical tape on them. Not in the picture is the masive black antenna wire (obvious if it has the antenna plug still attched) and a thin black wire which is part of the Antenna wire that powers the antenna booster.

You will have to remove the package trays, carpeted console side covers and the glove box door and box. The pull the center vent. Remove the trim around HVAC controller (pulls out). Remove the screws and the HVAC and warning/A/C button panel (dont need to unplug it, you can slip it into the console). Unscrew the two bolts in the center vent upper surface. Remove the two screws from the side front of the console and the one bolt on the dash bracket that seperates the glove box from the console (near the temp sensor). Un plug the window sunroof and rear wiper switches (long harnesses and plugs are under the dash actually). Then it just lifts out and unplug the clock and plugs to the Temp sensor and temp sensor fan.
Repair or replace the harness as needed.
Then replace the console in reverse order.

Cool, JE. Thanks. Where can I find instructions for removing the console?
