Are you thinking short-run condensation?

Speed, I dont really know what to think without more info,
right now we are all just guessing and speculating without any real evidence of an actual problem.
The rest of the machine looks good from the pictures posted.
When I had my 79 it had a bunch of water in the oil ,
I noticed this when I drained the oil.
Also the oil fill cap was filled with the oil/ water schmutz that looks like cheese whiz.
So it was looking like head gasket time.
It turns out this was caused by starting the engine numerous times and then not letting it run long enough under a load, (IE under 5 mins)
This was caused by a leaking intake system that would not run very long.
The CIS system had been richened up to account for the all the vacuum leaks, s the running window was rather short.

This created lots of water in the crankcase, and was evidenced as water was pouring out the oil vapor return line to the air cleaner housing.,
it was disconnected at the time and I had a nice stream of water running down the driveway dripping out of this hose.

Okay guy's here's a couple of photos. Not sure if you can draw any conclusions from them. There was a lot of moisture in the oil fill can/breather. There is a heavy gas smell though.

Okay what I'm going to do is what many of you suggested that's remove the plugs and post photos of them.

That is not 'blown head gasket' oil.
It would look like a chocolate milkshake.

Is the moisture you are worried about a coating in the fill cap? You can get a lot of moisture accumulating there under the right (wrong) conditions.

If you've been trying to start it, cranking it a lot, then it's easy to get gas into the oil.
Best to change it, but it will boil out and go through the engine fairly quickly once the engine is running.

Hmmmmmm, That does not look like water or coolant mixed in with that oil. In fact it looks pretty clean for a car that has been sitting.

I'm thinking that it is time to change the title of this thread. That's a good thing! ;-)

OK so you think you smell gas in the oil?
Please describe how the engine has been used in the last few months?
IE the car has been started and run a few times for short periods of say 10 mins or less.
The car has been driven for 20 to 50 miles at a time
The fuel system how fresh is the fuel?
what is the history of the fuel injectors?.
Have you checked the dampers and FPR for fuel in the vacuum lines? this could also be getting pulled into the intake system,
How old is the oil? how long has it been in this engine? how many engine starts has this oil seen?
When the engine was started what was the average temperature of the car?

pull the plugs and post pictures of them

I am starting to feel really good for Gomez! maybe this is something very simple, and a lot easier and cheaper than head gaskets.
good luck; I am hoping you guys find an easy solution and make another 029 owner super happy. go sharks!!

umm...I think you may want to reconsider...I would jump at the opportunity to be interrogated, if it
meant my problems might be solved....and money saved.....

You've got one of the top 928 mechanics trying to help you with your car.

In order to give good advice, he needs to know what the car is doing. He does NOT guess at what the issue is.

The more (and more accurate) info he has, the better his advice will be.

The choice is yours.
