Default Could this be it? [Ebay]

As everyone should know by now, I've been looking for a Guards Red 1983 928S in good "driver" condition. One's popped up on eBay (listed as a '73?). It's a Euro model currently in Canada. Looks solid enough, but I'd like the opinion of wiser, more experienced eyes. The windshield script would have to go, I know.

Thoughts, opinions, any experiences getting a car into the US from the GWN, or insuring a Euro model?

It looks pretty clean, but a couple things are odd...

First, it has some kind of weird spoiler under the rear bumper.
Since it is not standard, and the bumper is flexible plastic,
I would wonder how they attached it, and if it will end up cracking, etc...
(Plus it looks weird, and might not be easy to remove.)

It is also missing the side portions of the "S" rear spoiler.
It has the middle section, but is missing the sides.

The front spoiler is also MIA.

Also in the "ricer" realm, are the red painted wipers...
(both front and rear)
Nothing a bead blaster and a can of flat black spray paint wouldn't fix, but...

The thing that concerns me, is that the car was obviously repainted.
So you want to be sure it was not in any *serious* accident,
and then repaired, or else the frame could be bent, etc...
The hood looks mis-aligned, so that is also an indicator.
So check it carefully...

The speakers in the doors look new, and nice.

The big headlamps are a bonus.

And if it is a true Euro, it will be much faster than a US s2.
But confirm it to be sure.

And as usual, a full PPI will show if there are any lurking demons.
Sometimes the clean ones can be hiding things...

But if all is well, a little TLC will make it a pretty nice car.

I saw this one today and thought it looked pretty good. But I don't know much about the earlier model cars. I did see that you get a "Best of the 80's" cd with it. Whoo hoo

The seller can't seem to hold his camera straight, but you can't fault the car for that.

In this pic, it looks like there's red showing through the black leather:

Its difficult to tell from one image if the seat has been re-colored, or if its just catching some reflected red light from the car.

Passenger side of the hood doesn't sit flush. Has rear AC, was this retro fitted, and was it done right? If it is a retro fit, then the center console isn't stock, and the next owner might find all kinds of gremlins associated with that. I'd pass.

Looks like a CIS Euro S engine in there. Can't find my booklet to check out the VIN.

Leather pod is nice, if it's nice. Dash looks OK but no good pics given.

Rear A/C is odd. Didn't think it was offered.

Not a loss at that price.

The VIN is definitely an '83 EURO...and it is a DEFINITE REPAINT - and NOT a good one!...check pics of : Sunroof (the felt seal is painted red), and overspray on pics of the cowl, and hood struts, rubber, etc...
The more I look at the pics - the more 'red flags' I see - BUT - those flags might just be more RED overspray!

I think the seats are just rubbing through the original dye, all the way to the original "cow" color...
I've seen it before on black leather seats.
Regardless, they could be re-dyed, or replaced.
In this case, Emanuel said he was looking for a "driver", so I'm guessing the seats would be fine.

Mark is right about the BAD repaint, they even painted the rear window trim. It will start coming off the trim soon after you get it home.

Thanks for all the comments. Here's my big worry: the speedo is in kilometers, so the odometer reading should translate into less than 41000 miles. The seats look pretty worn for that kind of mileage, and a bad repaint (there's overspray everywhere!) on a car that's been garaged its entire life as part of a "collection" seems odd as well.

First step would be to get faxes of the "extensive records" to verify the mileage is accurate. If things make it past that, I'll arrange a PPI. This is assuming the bidding doesn't heat up, because I don't think it's worth much more than the starting bid in any case.

Oh, and good eye on seeing the sunroof felt was painted. I stared at that pic for the longest wondering "what's wrong with this picture?"
