Clutch parts/year identifications
As I am going through the garage to thin out the spare parts, I came across the clutch parts shown. After reading several posts concerning balancing, compatibility, etc., I became interested in the apparent incompatibility of a pressure plate and intermediate disc I have. One set (pressure plate & intermediate) shown has three pins of equal diameter while the other pressure plate has the same diameter holes and the (clearly incompatible) intermediate has the one larger pin I have been expecting was the norm. I imagine the readers will have some idea as to the reason (MY?) for the discrepancy. You can see the larger pin as described in the top picture, right hand disc, 9 o'clock position. All the other parts have identical diameter pins and index holes. This will cause me to have to have them balanced by my machine shop...
Question related to to subject. After replacing the clutch master cylinder, lines, and slave cylinder I became interested in the intermediate plate adjustment that I read so much about in previous posts. Any refined facts on the method of prying them into position with a screwdriver? I was confused with the forward and back instructions. Is forward towards the block?
BY THE WAY, there is a 83 automatic with 98,000 miles for sale @ $3,500 just across the river from me in Ossining (if anyone has interest). I saw it on one of my Facebook sell sites.https://www.facebook.com/marketplace...=porsche%20928
Here is the page with all the 928's for sale on this particular site.
I still have some spare parts that I will donate and sell for low $. I dont want them in the scrap.

Three Wheelin'
The manual identifies all the parts changes over the years. several combinations of clutch arms, discs, plates were used.. the plates have a date stamp on them, month/year.

EDIT: Apologies, didn't actually read before responding. Common rookie mistake.
Page 30-4 and 30-5 of the WSM describes the differences in the centering pins. If I'm interpreting it correctly the pins are all the same in '83 only and '84-86 there's one stepped pin that's larger.

So Rob, that means that if the pressure plates were unchanged except for the one pin diameter, I simply have to get the pressure plates drilled out for the pin and balanced. There are two very prominent pins (@ 7 & 8 o'clock in the second photo, right intermediate), that I forgot to mention. They are about an inch from the edge of the ring gear and stick out about 3/4". I found the dates on the PP of 10-1981 and 1-1982 if that helps narrow down the purpose. Clearly the intermediate is from a mixed bag and I dont know the years of those.

Yes, just drill and balance.
RE: those pins on the 2nd photo's IP, those are timing sensor pins that appeared in '84, making it a '-26' intermediate plate. Here's a PDF of the requisite pages from the WSM on dual disc clutch component identification.

Rob, you are the man! It looks like I have at least a 1984 intermediate which I imagine is the only component that wouldn't be interchangeable. Thank you for the PDF. I have the manual, but you saved me the effort in digging it out!
