Deactivate alarm on 928
I have a few problems with my 1990 Porsche 928 S4 but the one that right now is most urgent is the alarm. For some reason the alarm sounds intermittently and for no reason. Then I don't know how to stop it and cannot start the car. I have found that the only way to stop this is to disconnect the battery, wait a few seconds, reconnect the battery and then I can start the car. I have a number of issues, oil leaks, etc. but want to drive the car a bit this fall to clean out the old gas before I store it for the winter. Ant thoughts would be appreciated.
Also, any suggestions on where to buy new or used parts? I am trying to get it back into 100 % original condition.
Thanks.....Bill

928 International and 928sRUs are great vendors, you can also source parts from Porsche dealers, several web stores.
as to the alarm I do not know. I suggest doing a search on Google as I am sure there are troubleshooting threads out there.
welcome to the insanity.

on a 90 model the alarm module is behind an odd shaped carpet covered piece next tot he glove box. It is mounted up above the EZK and LH computers. There are instructions here on how to create a bypass jumper.

The alarm arms & disarms from the lock cylinders.
Locking the car arms the alarm. Unlocking it disarms it. The hatch lock will also do it. Opening the hatch with the key disarms it, turning the key to the left will arm the alarm (and do nothing else).
I would guess that the alarm switch (built into the back of each lock cylinder) in one or more of the locks is not working. It could arm, but not disarm, disarm but not arm, or not work at all (gonna guess it's the first one from your symptoms).
Here is a good thread on the lock cylinders. It's for a hatch lock, but all the locks are similar,

Parts
Sourcing: the last place you want to go is a Porsche dealer, mostly because you will be gouged. There is sooo much to know about how to care for these cars. Start with the New Visitor thread at top of forum, you can find the sponsors, suppliers there along with a ton of other links and info. "Search" is your friend here, although it is not the best search device, but the knowledge is here either in a thread or an individual. Welcome.

Thanks. You are right. I am finding something new every day. I have not driven my 928 more than about 20 miles so I am starting to get used to the buttons, ***** and setting to "Make it go".
P.S. I loved my '69 MGB-GT (BRG w/ Black interior) that I restored evrey nut and bolt and fabric.
