Thanks Luis, with both colors on the same page I can see the difference. I think I like both.

Here is a link to Chucks' '93 GTS with Classic Grey and it looks very similar to the "Slate Grey", is this a lighting problem or what?

Shane,

Yes, I think the lighting and background have a lot to do with how the Classic Gray interior appears in pictures. One way to tell Classic Gray is that it has a "pink" tone to it.

I've always found this unusual and if you notice, the flowers in the background of my pic really set that pink tone off. OTOH, the pics of the GTS in the link you gave have a darker background and the interior appears to be a more standard gray, but given proper lighting, it would look just like the interior in my pic.

What color car do you have this interior in mind for? My 951 is black.

Shane;

Your first picture is classic grey.

Here is a pic of 'slate' grey... from my 89 GT
<http://928registry.org/1989-928GT-31.htm>
Although the pic looks brownish, it is actually grey. Not the linen that Chuck has listed. (I had linen in my 951, it's brownish)

I have dove grey in my GTS and it is very light, nearly white.

I have a set of classic grey and it looks like your pic.

Not to be confused w/ grey/green which is noticeably green.

Scott: You've got me confused...

Your interior looks like a combination of black with either linen grey or special leather silk grey (can't tell for sure from the picture).

Or were you talking about slate grey as an exterior color? In '89 and '90 there was slate grey metallic for exterior AND slate grey special leather for interior. But there was not classic grey interior at the time. Classic grey interiors were not available until the '91 model year.

Slate grey special leather is darker than classic grey and lacks the pinkish/redish tint...

Nicole;

A thousand pardons. I went back and looked at the cars' sticker and it is Silk Grey. Always had it in my head it was Slate, as is the Exterior.

Humbly,
Scott

Default Now I'm confused...

After reading this thread, I'm thoroughly confused. The Classic Grey interior in my '91 GT looks identical in color to Shane's picture, as well as Chuck Z's; including the variation in the carpeting color.....not even close to the colors in Luis' post.
In my interior, there is not a hint of reddish or pinkish hue in the leather/vinyl; however the carpeting has a slight hint of red/pink to it.
My interior is far darker than Luis' picture.
Since I'm fortunate to have an original set of Porsche crest mats, I ordered a backup set of Lloyds Classic Grey mats from 928 Specialists, and they match my carpet exactly.
So are there variations in Classic Grey from year to year?

Well regardless of what color Porsche called this particular grey, I bought it and will be installing it into my 5sp.

PS: The exterior color on this particular donor car is Slate Grey Metallic.

The pinkish tone is more visible on the carpet than on the leather. And yes, theh picture of Louis' car is coming out a little on the light side. The slate grey leather that was available in '89 was definitely darker than classic grey and did not have the pinkish tone anywhere. Unless your car is a special order where the buyer specified the slate grey color from previous model years, you can rest assured that it's classic grey. And yes, the leather darkens by a hint over time. Mine has, at least...
