Wiring Harness Install
Hey gang,
i made it it back into the fold with an 89S4. I’m doing a TB install and decided to change the wiring harness also. Has anyone done the harness with the engine in that can offer advice. Any Dewayne type write-ups out there.

Are you getting a new harness? From Sean@928Docs, I hope. He has the correct connectors and wire colors on everything except the later model 3 wire oil pressure sensor. Installation is easy since the wires leaving the harness are routed the correct way to fit onto the correct connectors and in the right place. Very hard to screw up the installation, even for someone who believes that electricity is "magic"!
It took me about 2 hours start to finish to replace the harness and that included changing the oil pressure sensor to a 2 wire version.

Sean changed my harness for me on my 93 GTS, and yes it made a huge difference.

Most Important for you might be getting the routing correct and all the clamps. From the top, there's a P-clamp that holds it to the engine lift eye. Note the position on the eye as you remove it so the loop is correct relative to the eye and the Hal sensor wiring on the other side. Two more smaller P-clamps on the front lifting plate on the water pump. There's another near the alternator where the wires pass through the hole on the cam drive covers. Clamp on top of the engine crossmember on the way to the starter.
You picked a great time to replace, as the alternator is lowered already and the front clamps are already off for the belt. Note the routing around the heat shielding as you extract the old one, pulling forward from the starter end. Put the new one in the same way. Not a bad idea to connect a piece of cord to the old harness end as you pull it out forward, and use that cord as a routing-breadcrumbs assistant to get the new one back into the same places. I suspect that SeanR puts an instruction in the package that will add more guidance.

Thanks a bunch man, I really appreciate it. Got it ready for you this morning.
I've not done a write up on how to install but can put one together easy and will include it with the harness when I drop it off to Roger this weekend. Everything is labeled and the hardest part will be if you have a dirty engine.
Edit to add, just did a 2 page write up that will be included with each one.

Thanks guys. I’ll follow all instructions given. I’m gonna have to do a lot of cleaning before I re-route the new harness. Thanks Sean. Looks great. Wanted a new harness on my old 87 but never pulled the trigger. I’m gonna get this one running as well as my 87 ran.

In case folks don't recognize automotive art when they see it, this harness qualifies. I think the Culligan bottle detracts only slightly from the overall impression.

I’Ve got the harness installed. Easy peeasy. One is is my oil pan doesn’t have an oil lever sender connection on top. Did the 89s not have this connection? I have a connection on the harness with nowhere to plug it. Any suggestions?
