Default Help needed to identify a part and it's function.

While installing a newly recovered pod the small brass thingo pictured below, fell from under the dash.

After inspecting the area it came from, I think it was from the thingo pictured below and circled in red. It is attached to the aluminium tube section beside the ignition switch.\

I removed the white plastic part with a couple of small springs in it, see next photo.

After removing the white plastic widget pictured above, and looking into the place it was removed from, I turned the ignition key and noticed movement of some other metal tube inside the aluminium tube.

Can anyone tell me what's fallen apart here? It looks like the white plastic widget is missing a cover, and that has allowed the brass bit to fall out.

Cheers,
Gary

Looks like the 'Key-In' switch - this detects that the ignition key is in the lock regardless of whether it is turned to any position - this is used to sound the 'chime' if you open a door with key-in & ignition off (so you don't lock yourself out). Assume that doesn't work ?

Thanks Alan.
I was hoping it was something like that.
The 'chime' has never worked in my car, and I hate modern cars that have lots of bleeps and dings.
I will store the 'bits' in a safe place just in case I want to go fully restored in future.

Cheers,
Gary.
