All this talk about 928 "rear ends" is making me...
...do some research...
I hit Google for a bit this afternoon and came across some folks on
Staten Island by the name of -
928 Performance East
42 Croton Ave
Staten Island, NY 10301
(718) 448-7540
John928@icsamerica.com
http://www.icsamerica.com/928/
who offer a what appears to be fairly reasonably priced solution on rebuilds and upgrades to an LSD to those owners who live nearby. From what I've heard, 928 tranny rebuilds tend to run in the $2k range. Not bad considering the one for my Honda Accord (@ 225,000 miles) was something like $1500
Does anyone here know of this shop? Please excuse my ignorance if they are active on this group.
Best,
TUK / Tim
------------------------
Transmission Rebuilding and Upgrades:
Early 928 transmissions are known for 2nd & 3rd speed syncro failure. Rebuilding can be done successfully but only if all worn parts are replaced. Careful inspection of parts by 928 PE can reveal defects that others may miss. The technicians at 928 PE take the time to measure the assemblies to verify years of smooth operation.
928 PE has obtained rebuilding techniques directly from ZF of Germany and has developed the most reliable rebuilding technique for early 928 Transmissions.
We can also add a limited slip differential, with the right training can cut down lap times.
Complete rebuild with installation $1895.00 US dollars
Complete rebuild (Over the counter) $1595.00 US dollars (plus shipping)
ADD Limited Slip (LSD) $495.00

Don't know about "punk'd" (oh, how I love the decline and fall of the tattered remnants of the American language, ugh) but Jim is not joking - 'tis an illusion.
IIRC, we've talked about this "business" before - search the archives.
Lines like "top secret F1 technology" and such make my BS detector go into nuclear doom warning mode. Good for a chuckle and that's about all.
Not quite on the same, umm, spiritual plane as Motodyne, but the essential ingredients are present: smoke, mirrors, big stinking piles of BS.

Hi Greg,
Agreed...by many indicators (e.g., the decline of the entire educational system - all levels, glorification of no-talent thugs in popular media, wholesale deletion of music and arts education program in public institutions while continuing to support athletics programs), the fall of western civilization as, we've known it, is near. But, I digress...my apologies.
My use of the recently popularized slang term "punk'd" (thanks to either VH1 or MTV) was truly tongue in cheek. When I read the aforementioned webpage, I was looking only for tranny info...never even looked at the supercharger page as I cannot even anticipate affording such an upgrade. At any rate, will be on the lookout for "928 fantasy pages" in the future
I remember the Motodyne site...ha!
Best regards,
TUK

TUK,
Sometimes my sarcasm is not ladled on in the appropriate measure...
I knew you were operating tongue-in-cheek, just bemoaning what you are obviously aware of too.
Sorry if I sounded like I was being, umm, serious (at least with regards to your usage).
