Just get the JM CD.

Buy 4 stacks of blank white paper. Go to your company printer and print them all out double sided. Then go to Walmart buy binders, or clear protective plastic.

Thats what I did. Total cost $30 bucks.

I bet I could sell xerox bootlegs from a real manual for only $50 bucks and there isn't a damn thing Porsche could do about it. Like they bother surfing here and pay a lawyer a retainer fee to go after a small fish like me.

Just some ideas.

Red, good idea expect the "company printer" part, unless you know they won't care. Mine would, even if I supplied the paper.

Although I have the paper factory WSM, there are ways to live without it.

I found an old (266mhz) laptop computer with a CDrom and put it in the garage. It's hooked to my home network (and broadband).

I have the paper manuals on the shelf, but could "hypothetically" refer to my "JM CD WSM backup", PET, Mitchell import car data and of course surf Tony's site, Rennlist and other online sources for info needed at that moment.

I may add a printer or print across the network. Having a "disposable" page to get dirt and grease on is better than thumbing through the paper manual with those same greasy hands. Just print only the pages you need.

"If" I had a JM CD WSM or PET, they could be stored on a laptop which could ride along in the car on long trips like SITM and all the data would be available if needed.

Food for thought.

Was told they will be available sometime this quarter... AND the retail price is now $1200.70 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
One more thought..

Does this indicate that someday on EBAY we will see ads like :

Factory WSM in excellent condition w/ tired, dead gutted 1979 928. package deal only! Buy it now- $1100.00

The manuals could be worth more than the car..

Hmm... my car with manuals value just went up by $800.00!!!

"If" I had a copy, it would already be on a laptop with the car at all times.

If I had to guess, I'd say Porsche also hopes that these manuals will sit on the shelf and rot. They didn't want to provide them in the first place. Hasn't it been mentioned that they're only available in the first place because they have to be by law, in order for Porsche to sell the cars here? It's also been mentioned before that the manuals were never even made available in other countries where they weren't required to be. If I was forced to make the manuals available, and didn't want to, I'd do the same thing. Price them so high that nobody would buy them. If Porsche did actually print up a new batch of manuals, I wonder what their cost for each copy of them was. I do know what the local Porsche service departments hourly rates are if someone doesn't have the manuals and has to go there to get their car repaired, by a technician that Porsche does provide the manuals to.

I seriously doubt that this will make much if any difference in anything, but the following web page might be of interest to some.

Right to Repair

Jeeeeeeeeezus! Even my Rolex hasn't appreciated that much, and it's as old my S4. How can something rise in price 200% in a matter of a year?

I just priced a set of shop manuals for my Volvo V70 wagon. They want $2500 for them !! Porsche isn't the only car company that would rather you went to the dealer for service.

WTF?

Are they printed on solid gold paper?
Hell for that price you should have Mr. Porsche autograph and notarize each piece of paper.

Man and I thought the lying lottery woman was committing highway robbery!

With all the tech these days, it would be pretty slick to have it on a cheap palm pilot just sitting in the glove box. You would have all the tech info you could ever need for refrence. Add the 928 Road Help list, phone numbers...etc etc and your set for a XC trip.

Once i get a newer laptop the old one is going in the garage with a wireless router and a spare printer that came with my home system. Many times working on the car i have had to run back up stairs and pull up a website or two for reference. "what was that Torque value again?"

I only just bought a small Palm ZIRE71(with a camera on it) would it be capable of storing or even viewing that type of material on ..uh...the "Deerslayers" disc?

I did that this past summer, minus the printer. I wouldn't start a repair without it....plus I can play movies whenever I don't need tech info.

Maybe it's time to find a cheap laptop and printer for the garage.
