Default bosch hammer usage/information

does anyone out there have intimate knowledge of the bosch hammer tool? I am aware that in 2018, the hammer is ancient technology.
wondering about some of the functions and logic behind its workings

I have noticed that when reading actual values of RPMs, it seems to only ready approximations. for instance, it will read 690, 743,
795, 848, and 900, but the hammer does not seem to "know" any other numbers in between, like the proper 775 at idle for my car.

same with actual value of ECTS: its either 206, or 212.

is the norm???

I've been playing with the Bosch Hammer for a couple of weeks on my '90 GT. I was out on a drive today and got almost identical readings you posted above. Also got readings similar on a buddy's '90 GT two weekends ago. I think it might be normal. Not the most sophisticated scanner in the world.

Hi,

I have owned one for 20 years or so and used it on dozens and dozens of 928s, it has been a few years, but sounds normal to me also. If you can post a quick video or screen shot, we may be able to better determine if their is an issue or not, but I am doubtful there is an issue from your description..

BTW, sure it has been surpassed with better things in this day and age, but it still an excellent diagnostic tool that you are lucky to have access to.

Happy Saturday,

Dave

Totally normal. It is a byproduct of converting an analog signal (sender) to a digital signal (what the LH ECU needs.)

It is due to this:

... and you don’t even need to read the article. Just looking at the pictures will tell the tale.

most of time I see a "bounce" from 743 to 795. is this why, or should a perfectly set up car, stay at one number, at idle?

Sounds like reading RPM on an old Smiths chronometric
