I've just never been a fan of the turbo twists, and I think they look especially weird on this car. I like the original wheels shown in the pictures better. Cool story, though. Too bad about the original engine.
Another question: It says in the article that the block was sent to the factory for a Nikasil coating? Would that be because of the different pistons being used? Or is that a mistake in reporting?

I do not think it was a mistake given that they had lighter pistons made for the engine.
I got excited when I saw the early wheels. Gotti j55 because I have the exact same ones on my 83 euro. I've never seen them on any other 928. Great history lesson. Thanks for posting.
Super cool story and car....... I think the factory still has the 928 they build with an entire aluminum frame.... imagine how light that would have been with an aluminum roll cage... I think the lightest race 928's that I knew of were around 2600lbs wet off track no driver.... I recall the Devore car was much lighter, but not sure how much

Did you move them from your black car? I just picked at a Weissach with Etoile ET55 rims but the back tires rub with 245/45/16. Are you running 225/50?
