The only 928 that ever raced at Le-Mans

I've just never been a fan of the turbo twists, and I think they look especially weird on this car. I like the original wheels shown in the pictures better. Cool story, though. Too bad about the original engine.

Another question: It says in the article that the block was sent to the factory for a Nikasil coating? Would that be because of the different pistons being used? Or is that a mistake in reporting?

I do not think it was a mistake given that they had lighter pistons made for the engine.

The car was on display during Le Mans Classic, this year, and was also driven for "parade" laps.
Raymond wasn't driving because he had a broken leg
Patrick Gonin was the pilot during the parade laps.
It was used during our annual track session:
It is nearly impossible to find the right size tires for the original rims, so Raymond has made reproduced them in more contemporary sizes.

I got excited when I saw the early wheels. Gotti j55 because I have the exact same ones on my 83 euro. I've never seen them on any other 928. Great history lesson. Thanks for posting.

Super cool story and car....... I think the factory still has the 928 they build with an entire aluminum frame.... imagine how light that would have been with an aluminum roll cage... I think the lightest race 928's that I knew of were around 2600lbs wet off track no driver.... I recall the Devore car was much lighter, but not sure how much
