Default Odometer problem

I worked through the write-up on how to replace an odo gear (was "fiddly" indeed Wisconsin Joe), I could see reddish/brown crumbs (disintegrated gear), but looks as if the gear detonated the housing, shearing off the "ear" that the circlip and "pin" attachment point, At this point, (not having researched replacing the white plastic housing), guess it comes down to how much I want to pay (time and money) to get a functioning odometer. Might be best to clean and seal back up and move on.

Housing with the "van Gogh" treatment

mmmm, toaster leavings!

I’m sure you could get a reasonably priced used “core” housing from 928 Intl...

Thanks Ron, all I am finding are rebuilt or new Speedometers - $400 - $850. Am still searching, I found the broken off piece of white plastic, but not sure I will be able to bond it back in place well enough.

Oh my. That's a bit of a mess.

Option 1: Fix it. I would take the broken pieces, cut a groove around the outer perimeter in the pieces and the 'base'. Then epoxy (I like JB Weld myself, but others are good too) the pieces together, along with a wire going around the outside (in the groove you cut). That will act as a reinforcement and will strengthen the joint.

Option 2: Call Mark or Tom at 928 International. As was suggested, they likely have a 'core' speedo that would simply be the white plastic housing. You would have to transfer all the guts from yours over.

And yes. "Fiddly". I was not kidding.
I have a fair amount of experience in scale models and gunsmithing. I have a decent collection of small pliers, jeweler's files, tiny screwdrivers, miniature clamps, hemostats and about a bazillion pairs of tweezers.
Stuff like the speedo/odo, the lock cylinders, seat belt retractors, wiper motor and that sort of thing are a challenge, but something I am pretty good at.

Indeed it is a mess Joe, appreciate the suggestion of adding a wire for stability. No "core" available from 928 intl according to Tom. Time to add a magnifying glass to my toolbox.

Hey Scott. I have a used speedo that came out of my '84 in very good condition for sale ($250). It is a KPH unit but you could use as a core. PM me if you are interested.
