Default Power window WTF

Drove the 928 Saturday, no issues, hit the drive through, no probs. Hopped into it this evening to drive her down to my shop, and the drivers window will not go down...no click, no buzz, no nuttin. The Passenger side works fine. Are they on separate fuses/circuits? I had no indication or warning signs, it was quick and smooth. The switches are new. I hope I don’t have to open the door panel up...I just got it put back together... *sigh*

any ideas / suggestions?

Same fuses.

Switch can go dead..but if new, rare, motor connection can have just gone the last bit of corroded to work, too.

Tone it out to and from the CE panel for the off chance you dont have to open the door again.

I serviced / lubed the motor and mechanisms, to include the wire connections before I put the door back together..CE panel also recently serviced...dangit...well, I guess I’ll check switch and wiring, then take the damned panel off. Poop.

"CE panel also recently serviced"

Same here...which was about 2wks before I lost the rear 4 injectors on my 83...drove me nuts.

I believe it was plug W...was just ever so slightly..not seated well.

That was it.

Go thru with a meter..maybe its not in the door...

It could have been that the connection to the motor in the door came loose and popped off either due to road vibrations or the harness no being routed correctly.

Sad to say you may need to take the door panel off.

look into the door from the window slot you might be able to see if the connector is off and you might be able to push it back on with a slim jim

Regulator

Thermal Protector dis-assembled

Thermal Protector
Hi, If you've checked the 'usual suspects' such as fuses, connections etc. and still have the problem, it is possible that you have an issue with the thermal protector in the window regulator. This inexpensive item ($5) protects the motor coil against overheating when the switch is depressed for too long.

In my case, it turned out that the strip was oxidized and not making contact.

The thermal protector is connected at the top of the motor coil, soldered in series. Once de-soldered and opened, it was obvious that the brass thermal strip was corroded. It's possible to clean it up but better to replace it.

Hope this helps.

Frayed wires in the tube between the door and the front frame?

There are two 35 AMP fuses, one per door, also try jiggling the Ignition key

The old switches has a metal flat square that presses on a lever that bends/flexes the contacts, the newer switches use a plastic part,
I've had at least two new switches that had to be dissembled and the contact metal reformed for a better seating of the points. One day they worked, next day I was unable to close the window after opening it.

Thanks for all the tips and suggestions...I’ll check them all tomorrow morning. It’s not frayed wires in between, I just repaired and refurbed that harness just before SITM...the window worked fine Saturday, and not doing squat on Sunday....weird.

Weird as hell, pounded on the window with my fist while pressing the switch, and now it is working just fine, up and down no probs....I *think* that maybe the silicone that I repaired the seal with might have melted a little, and seized the glass...I dunno....

It appears to be the new switch, which I bought 2 years ago....is kaput....if I flip it quickly back and forth....it will finally work....sheesh
