look at engine running at night-
I found a bad coil wire this way.
engine was running but stumbling

Had same symptoms on my 88 S4, turned out to be failed LH .

Could be leaking fuel dampers. Put a Mighty Vac on them to see if they hold vacuum because if they are leaking it will let more fuel in.

89's are electrical nightmares, ask me how I know. Mine is still sleeping in the garage. Damn near every thing has been replaced, with new.

FWIW, the Polecat is getting pissed about living in the same lair. I may have to thin out the dead wood.
