Default Steering rack equalizing pipes

Hello
Ive removed the steering rack before I send it off for a rebuild, and noticed that the two pipes that run from one end of the rack to the other (equalizers i think) dont have copper washers underneath the banjo bolts. Are they supposed to have them? there's no detailed view in the PET. Car is an 85 S2 Auto

As it is 'air' and not fluid I do not think a tight seal is needed (washer)
