Have you considered Pela type vacuum extractor for the oil? Makes removing and disposing of the old oil a surgically clean process. You only have to deal with a few drops of oil spilt from filter.

You can’t examine plug for metal fragments, but what would you do if you found any, apart from worry?

Before I had my Quickjack, I would jack the car up high enough to put my ramps under the front tires and lower down. Definitely high enough to get under. Oil changing on a 928 has to be the easiest service items.https://www.walmart.com/ip/Mobil-1-1...5-qts/20713647

How much cheaper can you get?

This is why I use Fumoto Drains.

A fellow Rennlister also did this for both block coolant drain plugs!

No more mess.

They couldn't do it because the car is too low for their bays, so I drove it home, got 8 quarts of 10W40 oil, got the car up on the ramps (are there really low slope ramps anyone recommends? Mine are steep so I have to have the car go up on a 2*4, then another 2*4 then a 4*4 then 1*12 on the ramps to get the spoiler to clear), got the 10 quart oil drain pan from the garage, set everything up.

First problem was the oil plug, it was in so tight I had to use a large socket wrench to loosen it. Finally came loose (the PO was a real idiot) and I realized it didn't have a crush washer. Great. Took it off.

And oil poured out so fast it overtopped my drain pan and went all over the driveway. What a complete mess! I think I dumped about 3q, so I went in, got the dishwasher soap, and broke it up.

Swapped the filter (hard hand tight, then 1/8 a turn with the oil filter wrench) checked the plug (no filings under a 4x loupe), put the washer plus plug back on (how it didn't strip is beyond me), filled it up with 7 quarts, started, got pressure after a few seconds, and got the car off the ramps. Next up is to get the car on level ground and top it off.

But it's just funny how even the simplest things have surprises on this car. Next step is to get the hood stripped and repainted, then maybe start on the vacuum servos that are bad (footwell, defrost, and comb). Still not sure how to get the servo tops off....

Since the 10w40 is already in I would run it a bit and then drain, think of it as an engine flush.
++1 on Hyper Lube....it's great stuff! My car actually ran a little smoother...and that's with running Royal Purple HPS 20/50....which is supposed to have extra sticky for older valve trains..Hyper Lube is good stuff ....Glad to find another fan!

If you use the proper oil you don't have to worry about adding anything to it. More is not always better.

You could upset the additive package in the oil by pouring in unnecessary additives.

Our cars only need the "old" levels if ZDDP from the 80's & 90's. 1100/1200ppm. There are plenty of oils, both synthetic & non with these levels.

Why make everything so hard? I just raise up driver side enough to get to drain plug and slide 12 qt low profile drain pan under plug location pull plug out with 15 mm box wrench then lower the car down level to get all the oil out. raise the car back and install drain plug and change oil filter. takes 1/2 hour and I use amsoil 20-50. Be sure to fill the filter before installing.

The tank has a large plug and the oil pumps out horizontally and you need to guess where to put the bucket.
Here you go, this is how I've been doing it for a while now - piece of cake ;-)

FYI - funnel dia. is 12"

Thanks everyone for the thoughts on this. I like the fuji drains, might get one of those for the next oil change. Likewise the 2*12 ramp idea could work, might be a bit big to get on and off the driveway but the possibility of collapse would be zero (so no need for a pair of jackstands backing up the current ramps).

928Nut that is a great idea, I just need to get (a) a lift and (b) a garage to put it in. Sometimes I really wish I had a garage.....

Get a set of Lift Bars. My 928 is the easiest oil change car I've ever had. But, my drain plug nor my filter was never put on by a gorilla. Takes less than an hour to do it (I use Royal Purple 20/50 BTW) ......It took me 2 days to do my daughter's VW New Beetle the first time. My god that filter location and how tight it was put on was a Mother! No wrench I could buy worked. They just slipped or crushed the filter. Eventually had to use a very long heavy screw driver, driven through the filter at an angle for leverage to turn it off. Talk about a mess! LOL

Wyatts I love your profile pic...Wierd Science was on scifi or BBC the other night I can't remember which..and I just tuned in to see that awesome scene where Anthony MIchael Hall's character picks her up in front of the mall where she's talking to the then-version of Robert Downey Jr. and the other stooge...he opens the door for her and then does the big arm wrap-around and licks her face off in the car then neutral drops it and lays rubber out of there...love that scene...

Do the 86 and earlier cars have a full belly pan?
