Yeah, you may have to go with 275/35R18. That gives you a tire diameter of 25.58", about one inch over stock 245/45R16. I ran that size for awhile and it worked fine for me, even with the speedometer being a little bit off. If you ran 235/40R18 in the front, at 25.40" diameter you would have pretty closely sized tires in the front and rear.

I finally got the car back together and went for a drive. Due to the wet roads, I didn't do any turns that would have caused the rubbing that I had with the previous setup. But, I did attempt to engage the ABS on the wet pavement after that tires had 40 miles or so on them. No luck, the tires stuck like glue. They didn't slide at all with me slamming on the brakes from about 45mph. We just stopped. Very very quickly. They also stuck well enough to prevent me from breaking the rear tires loose in situations that I used to be able to with the old setup. So, these tires are really really sticky. I can't wait to see how they perform with autocrossing.
I'm super happy with the combination of wheels and tires. It was worth the expense to acquire them and the work to get them mounted. I think that ordering Fikse through 928 Specialists is the ideal route to go, and I will probably do that in the future. But, for now, these wheels seem to be adequate. Not ideal, but adequate.
Following up on this. I switched the above Carrera III rims to winter duty and bought the wheels that @DR recommended and sells (928 Specialists).
I bought Fikse FM10 wheels with Cerakote centers and outer rims. 18x9.0 ET63 in the front, 18x10.5 ET57 in the rear. I actually ordered slightly different offsets, but that's what they shipped me. On the rears, I had to add a 3mm spacer in order to give the inboard side of the tires enough clearance. On the fronts, the offset has worked out ok. Not exactly how I wanted it, but so far so good. It results in a little more crown sensitivity than I would like, but it's not noticeable unless you're really particular. I did make some very specific alignment and ride height changes to get the best balance of comfort and performance with the new wheels. This size isn't just something that you can throw on and go. It needs to accompany a careful look at your suspension setup.
The wheels are very high quality and not a flaw on them (yet). Beautiful wheels. Worth the price.
