Another tire and wheel question
Sorry if this is redundant, but I’m not too good with wheels and tires.
i bought some boxster wheels, they bolt in fine and look pretty good.
Front are 6jx16 ET50 (99636211200)
Tires on the rims are 205/55/16
Rear are 7jx16 ET40 (99636211400)
tires on rims were 225/50/16
Rear tires were shot, so I put on some 235/55/16 that I had
they look great, but the steering is a bit funny, although I have only driven 20 miles on them.
My car had 235/55/16 on the front and rear. The fronts rubbed.
so what tires should I run / can I run on these wheels. I do like the look of the 235’s on the rear, but I want good functionality.
Thanks !

Good tire math is width x 25.4 * 1.2 to get a max _reasonable_ tire width.
6" wants a 185 tire...I used to race 1st gen RX7s on that...
205 street will wander a lot on that wheel up front...same on the rear, but more notable between steering input, and the car doing something. And with the extra weight (side loading for cornering)...not ideal...but they look nice if you dont mind the tradeoffs

Those wheels look good but they are undersized for your machine.
I would look for some cup 2 or cup 1 wheels in 17 inch go for 7.0 or 7.5 inch on the front and 8.0 or 9.0 inch in the rear
Stock tire size is 225 50 16 so put that in the tire rack tire size comparator to figure out the comparable sized tires.
NOTE stock is ET 65 the most you would go up front is ET50.
For the rear stock is ET 65 the most you could go is ET45.
The lower the ET # the further away from the wheel mounting surface the rim edge will be.
NOTE if you found some ET 60 wheels that were say 9 inch wide you could fit spacers on the rear to kick the wheels to the fender lips.
No spacers will used on the front of a 928.

Sorry Stan, I am way dumb on this, I get most of what you are saying....I know the stock size for the phone dials, and I am happy with that size, when the kitty fills back up a bit, I’ll get new rubber for those wheels, and get them refinished.
I am quite happy with the rears on these wheels. The fronts are what confuse me. They actually look ok, but I do get a little wandering....to make these wheels a little more street friendly, would I need to go up a tire size or 2? Could I use 225/50 on these? Or am I backwards?
the 205’s look a little small, but not too bad, just want to improve the handling a bit.
hopemyou make it to SITM this year...I’ll buy you a beer or 2 and let you school me on tires...
thanks for the input.

You might want to check out AO's wheel and tire calculator which he posted here....

and is downloadable from here ....

I'm no expert but I can definitively say a worn out suspension is going to tramline all over the road regardless of tire combination. I had that issue and it didn't resolve until I replaced steering rack bushings and shocks.
Here's a tyre wheel calculator that seems to echo what others are saying...
http://www.tyresizecalculator.com/ty...dth-calculator
I think you can put a bit wider rubber (than the calculator recommends) on the 6 and 7 inch wheels but longer term, you'll be happier with a 7 or 8 inch in front and 8 or 9 inch on the back. I'm a big fan of the 16x7 and 16x8 968 wheels as they can be found for a deal every now and then and they clean up/restore NICELY.
This set is available on Craigslist as of yesterday, for $250 OBO. The ad says one of them is plastidipped.
I bought a set of these for the same price in Jacksonville and painted them before putting factory sized tires on them 225 up front and 255 in the rear, I think.
PM me if you want to know where the ad is.
Good Luck and GREAT JOB!

Thanks Trey. The calculator will be very helpful. Can’t buy those wheels ATM....a bit tapped out. My buddy has piles of used tires, so I have quite a selection at hand to try out.
i only drove the car a few times prior to the master going out, but it didn’t wander on the 235,s like it is now on the 205’s.
once I refinish the phonies, I’ll most likely put those on this car with stock tires, and bump these to my 79 while I work on her.
#30 has restored wheels, and decent tires, but she is too original and I don’t want to start moving her parts around.
see ya soon!

Please excuse the slight hijack
I'm searching for wheels for my 86.5 and just came across a set of Moda's
F=18x8.5 ET55
R=18x10 ET42
I am trying to use some of the wheel calculators but am not sure how these would fit - it appears the rear may stick out
Also, any thoughts on Moda quality and what you would pay for this used set ? (ignore the winter tires)
Thanks

Ramp those wheels will work, with the caveat of,( your car probably has factory spacers, )
the rear wheels will not fit if you have spacers installed,
NOTE if so then you will need to install new shorter studs and replace the rear wheel bearings.
NOTE the tire will be close to the fenders but if you use a 265 30 18 tire it should be fine.
You may have to pull the fenders out with both of your leather gloved hands, they do have some give to them

The 'push' in that rear to front tire combo would be amazing.

They're a used set of wheels and tires. The fronts have to be replaced anyways so really it's just the wheels. Sorry, I should have just stated the wheel sizes but I just copied and pasted from the add.
