Mystery Orange 928S
Guys
Someone contacted me. They thought I had their deceased brother's brothers 928. I was very excited to find out a little more about the possible previous owners of my Continental Orange 928.
The gentleman sent me pics. The car was indeed orange. But it was definitely not my car. And it appeared to be a RHD 928S
The pictures below are very old. The car looks pretty new in the pics by the state of the engine bay.
Any ideas?

I'm guessing 82 or 83 given the front/rear spoilers, platinum wheels, and the engine certainly looks like the 300hp 4.7 CIS motor...that came in the Euro S at the time..
cool 928 for sure...
any interior shots?

I would guess it was a custom color order. It does look like original paint (areas under the hood that are usually very difficult to paint are orange too).
Another thought is that the picture is really faded (or poorly exposed) and the 928 is actually Indisch rot (guards red)...those can be very "orange" in the right kind of lighting. But it certainly looks like the other continental orange 928's I've seen on rennlist (never in person)...

Learned to drive in a Toyota Cressida GLE back in the good ole RS of A! (White car in the garage!) Quite a vanity plate too, seeing as there was no such thing back then in SA as far as I know.

Maybe a clue to authenticity of the paint here? (Sorry no reason to doubt the owners brother)

Given the licence place I was wondering if the owner had a releationship with KTM and the car was a special paint to order.
Orange is the company colours for KTM

Yes the bolts were painted over. Also, there is very little likelihood that this car would have been a re-spray, considering the picture was taken apparently when the car was pretty new (and thus, why would it have been repainted). You can tell a virtually new engine bay. Also, I don't think it's a faded out red, because the red taillight lenses should then also be faded out, and they are not.
It's an early car (the Euros had spoilers several years before the US spec cars), and Continental Orange was a factory color choice on early cars (see related thread elsewhere above).

Wow, now nice looking cars new in orange!!
I have a lot of experience with film and faded film, this car was definitely orange. And yes, as stated several times, the bolts are painted over new.

That may be true, I'll defer to Alex or Jim D, but since it was a 928 color early on, my guess is that one could special order it even though it might not have been one of the standard colors for the year in question. The car in the pictures is likely an 80, maybe an 81, so not far removed from the first year or two in possible color selections.
